UNIQUE ROADSIDE Attraction Outside Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (Fountain of Youth)

Ойын-сауық

I found the Fountain of Youth and it really does exist!!! Sort of...
This location was actually suggested to me by FB and I knew I had to see it for myself and to share it with all of you.
About 20 minutes outside of downtown Pittsburgh along the roadway sits a rather intriguing looking structure. At first glance it looks like nothing more than a spring house, but as you approach it, you soon realize that it's called Fountain of Youth.
Built in the late 1930s, this was a popular source for locals to get drinking water, but less than two decades later, no one was allowed to consume the natural spring source. It became contaminated with high levels of bacteria so in essence, this now became the fountain of death. Thankfully this location is registered as a historical landmark and this unique roadside attraction can be appreciated for decades to come.

Half of my family is from that area. My father told me about getting water from that spring. Wasn’t until I was an adult did I get to explore it myself. The lake at the park that it’s located has lots of fond memories, too. Thanks so much for sharing. Haven’t seen it in 30 years.

Grew up here at North Park. Such a beautiful area and so much to do. A lot of great nature trails. Still visit it about once a week. The Wildwood Mine once adjoined the park, but only a few remnants remain. It was the scene of some violent worker/owner/law enforcement uprisings. It was also a great source for watching trains. Thanks for sharing. 💙

Amazing roadside find and such beautiful stonework and a sweet little creek. Interesting history too. Love the unique circular Fountain of Youth stone sign. You are right, it took some intricate work to arrange and insert all the small stones around the sign. The place for sure does have that Romanesque feeling to it and the landscape all around it is beautiful. I might venture into that back cave because Daddy Long Legs are the only spider I don't mind, although I have never seen that many in one place ever. lol The step spillway is also remarkable and love the stonework of that too. Great video JP, thank you! 💙

Beautiful spot. I live about ten miles from one of the places that Ponce de Leon landed in Florida, and some of the local springs are thought to perhaps, maybe be the so-called "real" fountain of youth. Truth is that it's a myth, but it's fun local lore. Florida's springs are incredible places with or without the legends and I highly recommend visiting one of more if you're ever in this area.

What a wonderful video. Was the spring water actually safe to drink without boiling it first when the Fountain of Youth was built in the late 1930's? While I'm not afraid of spiders either, I'd probably carry a Raid multi-insect control aerosol spray with me and spray those pesky spiders that are clustered together to at least wipe out many of them. Just my thoughts.

I'd be looking out for snakes if there in warm weather. Did they say where the bacteria contamination came from? It don't look like there's any local septic systems nearby? Is it down stream from a cattle farm?

Spiders don’t bother me. Too bad the kids sprayed it up. It’s a neat piece of depression era history. Nice natural spring.

This would be cool to check out. However I wouldn’t fit in that small area lol. Need to lose about 50 pounds.

It really angers me when people deface property. They have no concept of history/historical properties. There are so many different ways to have fun. Actually surprised that someone got their nose out of their phone long enough to execute the tasteless graffiti 😡

It’s too bad that these WPA projects are left to decay. I think someone should take this over and restore it maybe make a little park. However, I’m not saying drink the water.

Don't get why people have to tag everything especially historic items. Disgust me. But anyway a cool find.
