Unique Disney Submarine Dark Ride | 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea | DisneySea 2022
[2022] 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is an unique submarine ride at Tokyo DisneySea. Do you guys prefer this Disney submarine ride at Tokyo DisneySea or the Finding Nemo Submarine ride at Disneyland in California? Let us know in the comment below.
"Home to an ancient, advanced civilization, Atlantis is said to have sunk to the bottom of the ocean long ago. Some say the people of that continent lived on and adapted to the world beneath the waves. Board one of Captain Nemo's powerful submarine boats and join him in his undersea search for Atlantis." - www.tokyodisneyresort.jp
Both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom used to have the 20,000 Leagues under the Sea submarine ride. Disneyland turns it into Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage while Magic Kingdom has become Seven Draws Mine Train coaster ride.
Ride filmed October 2022 at Tokyo Disneysea at Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan.
If you're claustrophobia, this ride may not be for you.

One thing I find interesting is how, unlike the other 20,000 Leagues rides, this doesn’t actually go under water, they just give off the effect by having water in the windows and blowing bubbles through it.
@Steveobrine_Official

This might be because in a previous 20,000 league ride after the ride closed they never drained the water and let the animatronics sit, dissolving for years. But the time they finally drained the water they were ruined beyond repair. This was probably done so they don’t have to go through something like that again.

The Cost to maintain the 20,000 Leagues at Disneyland was not sustainable. Break downs were constant and repairs were hard to do being underwater. Handicap accessibility is another factor in ride design compared to back in the day. It was an effort to get into those subs at Disneyland. Sadly this ride loses that feel. But the line cue and entrance to the ride is AMAZING.

Oh, you noticed that toooooooo..
It is extremely impressive how they can make it look like you are truly underwater now while to even having water. The old 20,000 leagues ride (that turned into finding nemo) was partially submerged which was impressive. And I only know of one submarine ride that used legitimate submarines and that was the ride that was at West Edmonton Mall in my home town. It got shut down YEARS ago but the submarines were positively buoyant so they could float and were held underwater by holding on to the track they were guided by. They loaded and offloaded via an elevating platform that would raise the track they were anchored to. The only thing exposed above the water line during the ride was the conning tower which served as the emergency evac and snorkel. They had to shut it down due to constant mechanical issues with the platforms and operating costs last i checked but the tracks and everything other than the platform and the submarines are still in the lake inside the mall. And yes i said inside. They have a man made lake inside the building.

@Adventures with Alex Just a double layered glass with water and air bubbles with great timing. It's very believable!
I remember riding this so many times back when I was a kid in Japan. I wasn't tall enough for rides like Journey to the Center of the Earth, and the Tower of Terror had not opened yet, so this was my favorite ride in the park. I also really loved Aquatopia and the Little Mermaid themed land
as someone who rode original 20000 leagues at Disney world this was amazing, thank you for sharing, fantastic!
around 5:20 when the submarine was losing power and struggling to float back, you can see the merpeople pushing the submarine to help us as the shadows on the wall. More clearly visible when in person.
Back in the '70's I got to ride the nautilus in the 20,000 leagues ride at Disney land. Getting on a 'sub' and cruising under the sea was a great ride.
This ride used to be much darker and less dramatic when it first opened. Searchlights and easier to view features were added a few years later.
I went here with my family a couple of years ago. DisneySea was incredible!

The bubble effect is genius. I only wish that they would somehow could move the bubbles along a horizontal plane. They only go vertical and move with the cab which doesn't look very realistic but still very smart.

4:10 What I would have loved to see are the murals in the atlantis ruins in more detail, since from what I gather they did much worldbuilding in just those pictures on the walls, showing the story of Atlantis and its downfall.
Such a fantastic ride ❤ it’s on my bucket list
Wow, that's neat. It is a bit reminiscent of the original 20,000 Leagues ride but with updated special effects. It is definitely more aesthetically steampunk than the original ride or the movie. Then again, the novel by Jules Verne, upon which the movie and the original rude are based, could be considered steampunk. 😃

Wow it’s so beautiful

still my fav ride
The cars on this one look more like "Atlantis the Lost Empire" than "20,000 Leagues". And I'm sure the Japanese enjoy the Steampunk style.
Way better than the Finding Nemo Ride. I wish Disney World still had the Nautilus ride though. That was so cool even with the limited technology in the tank at the time. It would be great to bring it back now
Looks like a great ride but why did the camera operater keep swinging it back to the ppl inside I felt like they were missing the actual ride .. the random ppl inside weren't doing anything interesting lol

Kinda feels like what it'd look like if they did a ride for the Atlantis movie
I’ve only been on the one in WDW Florida. So I prefer that.

I really wish we had this at DLR instead of Subs. I love the Subs and their history, but I feel like this would do loads better. Space is an issue and having the lagoon keeps Tomorrowland cool, so I don't think it'll ever happen, but it would be nice

Does anyone else think that the fish-people from the Atlantis scene are sort of cute?
I feel like this ride would be more suited as an Atlantis ride. But from a marketing standpoint I see the need to do 20,000 instead as it's name alone is more grounded.
How I wish they could redo this ride with today's technology using video as well as animatronics - they could do amazing things like putting us in the Wheelhouse behind Captain Nemo as the Nautilus dives underwater, in the flooded Pump Room as Nemo & crew are repairing it, and actually show the squid fight and we'd be in it facing the squid!
wondering what the evacuation plan for this ride is! ugh what i wouldn't give to be there on a day where it breaks down just to see those gorgeous set pieces up close!!!!
@idk-zt8rx

I've seen a video of an evacuation on this ride and you have to climb up to an area above the sets to evacuate. So you won't be able to walk through them
It's reminiscent of 20K at WDW except this one doesn't actually submerge.
THIS RIDE IS SO COOL!
They had a "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" ride at Disney World in Florida years ago. I guess it was okay. Getting on the ride wasn't like this. The ride itself was just you rode around this Lagoon looking at a bunch of fake stuff under the water.
撮影主が左側に乗った時点でどうしてもウツボを連想してしまったw トラウマだから仕方ない
I just discovered we are not looking at things under water but the windows have two layers where in between it is water and bubble. They probably did this to prevent cases of submachanophobia

Recommend you update the clip description. “If you're claustrophobia, this ride may not be for you.” I’m fairly sure no one is “claustrophobia” - perhaps they are “claustrophobic” but it would be truly surprising if any of your viewers are “claustrophobia.” And if they ARE Claustrophobia, they would probably LOVE this ride.
