    I interviewed last week and my local and was asked why I wanted to be a plumber and I told them that I have been married for 12 years and lay pipe a few times a week consistently for that 12 years and she's always satisfied so I think I'm ready for the union. They told me to exit the room the same door I entered. I assume I'm not getting the apprenticeship

    great video Vernon! this is to Vernon or anyone whos sees it - I'm a 22 year old in Connecticut. I'm a plumbing apprentice with a year of schooling done and 3500/8000 hours done for my apprenticeship.(need 8000 hours for license in CT) I recently left a small firm because I'm beyond tired of getting stuck with old guys who rip people off, don't have any ambition, and well to say the least, have a lot of other bad problems... I did carpentry before this and it was the same so feel like that shows I'm not just complaining or being a you know what... but after years it really started to affect my mental health badly and I don't want to become a drunk like my old master plumbers... is union the next/best move for me or do I just give up and quit the trades... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you

    You need to get you a vehicle man, get into the union as soon as possible ! Sign up to a local union near your before December 31st, that’s usually the cutoff for the next year apprenticeship class, they will call you for a math test in February and if you pass an interview in April.

    If you join a local it is a 5 year apprenticeship program so you will be expected to stay there and work local jobs, that’s why I am saying you would be better off going to Columbus cause they have a lot of work now and coming up so you will have the opportunity to get all your hours, learn the most of different skilled trades Orbital Welding , Hand Detailing , High Purity, Combination Welding , Pipefitting & Plumbing , meet a lot of traveling construction workers cause they will be coming to OHIO to work at INTEL, and then when you finish the program ( top out as a journeyman ) you will be able to use the connections you made to find the highest paying jobs .

  • @youcanthandlethetruth6976

    @youcanthandlethetruth6976

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@TheMrFlyBoy18 Not typically. There are cases where we are in a position that we need to be at certain heights, mostly during rigging where we use a crane to lift equipment to us and we need to be high up to control the equipment over high structures. I haven't been on a job where actual pipe fitting required us to be at extreme heights. Pipe fitters do exactly as the name suggests. We work with pipes and attach fittings to them, either by threaded fittings or by welding them onto the pipe. The difference between pipefitters and plumbers, is that pipe fitters work with small to very large pipes, and the pipes we work with can be attached to various equipment and they usually carry some kind of chemical or petrol product. We do work with large utilities like Water Departments as well.

    Depending on the Local Union both plumbers and pipefitters weld, welding is not mandatory but it is a skill you should learn even if you only learn orbital welding for specialty work ( high purity ) Pharmaceutical / Semiconductor industry is booming right not and usually high purity pharmaceutical is shut down work so it pays pretty good 6 or 7-12s plus some companies like Kinetics & DSI pay per diem.

    If you are single or have a strong support system go to school 4 nights a week, and the weekend and practice welding. 16 hours a week you can get, if your tray dedicated you can practice for an hour before classes start. UA-21 then UA-22 then UA-41 then UA-63 Make sure you apply for both apprentice licenses. Ask to be switched to the Tuesday / Thursday classes and go on Monday / Wednesday to the Journeyman welding classes. Hopefully you get with a company like Denver-Elek or Spears mechanical , you will learn a lot working for them.
