UNION PACIFIC's Sidney Sub Part 2 - Sidney to North Platte

Part two of our series on Union Pacific's Sidney Subdivision in Nebraska covers the eastern half of the line between Sidney and North Platte.
The double track main line follows Lodgepole Creek and the historic Lincoln Highway (US 30) through charming small towns including Lodgepole, Chappell, and Julesburg (Colorado). It takes a new course following the South Platte River through the famous western town of Ogallala as it heads to its final destination of Bailey Yard at North Platte.
Monster manifests pushing three miles long ply the rails along with hot-shot Z trains running expedited merchandise across the Corn Husker State, plus coal trains, stack trains, auto racks and more. Our tour coincided with Union Pacific Big Boy number 4014's run across Nebraska on its Summer 2021 Tour and we will take you trackside for the action.
Our program concludes with fantastic views of Bailey Yard, the largest railroad classification yard in the world. Scenes from the air and the Golden Spike Tower help bring the scope of this operation to the big screen.

Seeing Big Boy 4014 in a thumbnail for a video on the Union Pacific transcontinental main line and the video being produced by 7Idea Productions is definitely an attention getter. 🙂
The best part of part two was Bailey yards personally I never anything about this place really enjoyed this series

@7idea Productions Aaron, I just found out that 4014 "Big Boy" will once again be going on tour this July, and will visit Utah, Nevada, and California as part of its "Four Corners" tour. Planning on going with my son as it's something he needs to experience in his lifetime.
Just FYI, at 35:20 that is NOT a doppler radar, it is a water tower.

Fun fact. Some cities filled complaints with Union Pacific, saying that the train's horns were too loud. The railroad went and installed an FRA approved horn testing location in North Platte Bailey Yard. To the complaints dismay the railroad found that their train horns were actually not loud enough to meet FRA regulations.

1:34:32 Welcome to North Platte home of this The Largest Yard in The World itself Bailey Yard. The Heart of the UP Network and the center point of the Transcontinental Railroad all trains begin and end here. Every hour 10,000 cars drop down the two hump tracks into the bowl to feed the beast as RCL powered shunt diesels build the trains that will leave to every city in America and in Mexico and Canada. That's why Bailey Yard is important everything we use comes through here.
Today we go to Bailey Yard and watch as Big Boy makes his grand entrance. The rest of the coverage will be in the Kearney Sub and Marysville Sub programs.
At 18:11, that's an odd car carrying those red containers. It's one frame with a 2-axle truck in the middle.

those are articulated Trash Spine cars. they’re used a lot more commonly on Eastern roads but you can still catch some on the western roads
Three mile long train. Amazing but I wonder if it really saves money overall. Time to set up and disassemble the manifest, unravelling if there's a derailment or wagon fault in transit etc etc Bit like the "Big Wing" debate in the RAF during the Battle of Britain.
All these historical markers that you show. Is there a map that show these? I been interesting to search them out and see? Patrick

There are small differences. Sometimes it's the cab shape or size. Sometimes it's a difference in the engine bay, like the cooling system on the top of the locomotive.

The model number is also painted on the side of the locomotive.
