    There is a lot of misinformation in this report. Walmart is the largest grocery retailer in the nation with 25% of the market. Costco is second with 7%. The combination of Kroger and Albertsons would amount to no more than 11% to 15% of the nation's grocery sales.

    @@chair6180 Actually, it is common knowledge that record high inflation and a decrease in SNAP benefits have reduced margins in the grocery sector. Kroger is a public company therefore they would only merge if it meant larger profits, which by default it does not (see AOL Time Warner). It does eliminate destructive competitive practices. Look at Airlines, Automotive, and Groceries, all are very cut throat markets with extremely high uncontrollable labor costs. These are the companies who tend to merge. The bigger question is why is the FTC so powerless to stop consolidation?

    There won’t be any Piggly Wiggly stores. The company that owns Piggly Wiggly, C&S Wholesale is buying most of the QFC and Safeway stores and the name rights. Presumably, QFC and Safeway will retain there names just with new owners.

I can only assume you’re mentally impaired. Drugs or alcohol perhaps? Get help. But once again, C&S Wholesale is potentially buying QFC and Safeway. This includes most of the stores and their names. Meaning, that while under new ownership both QFC and Safeway will keep their respective names. No name change! Got it?

    It makes sense to close stores in Washington. It’s not corporate greed - it is the need to produce income as a business. You can’t do that when you have to deal with the rampant shoplifting and crime in Washington, minimum wage laws, and the ridiculous union demands.
