UNINVITED GUESTS Cleaned A Patch Of My Clients Roof, And Wouldn't Leave Until She CALLED THE POLICE!

Roof Cleaning By Pressure Washing & Soft Washing Cambridge.
Welcome all to a roof cleaning job that has a, frankly disturbing reason for me being hired.
This job came from a customer that explained to me she previously had a couple of men knock at her front door, asking if she would like her roof cleaned, and offering a test patch to show her how clean they could get it. My customer being very kind and quite timid, and in her mind, not wanting to offend the men by saying "no not interested" like a lot of people might, simply said she hadn't really thought about it, and that it's unlikely she could afford it, in the hope that would put them off and they would then leave. But they didn't. They took her trying to be polite, as someone they could bully and harass into accepting the job. So while one of them was giving her a sales pitch as to what they would do, how it would benefit her, and that they'll give her an example, the other man had turned on their pressure washer unwinded their high pressure hose, got out a step ladder and proceeded to pressure wash a patch of her garage roof.
So before she really new what was going on, my customer had this very noticeable test patch in the middle of her garage roof (sadly they do this deliberately to try and force people into accepting the job) and one of the men saying to her quite forcibly, that they will carry on, and they'll do it for this price, so on and so forth. By this time my customer was feeling extremely intimidated, so she asked them to leave, which they wouldn't, proceeding to tell her that they would do it for half the price they originally quoted, now that they're already set up and have started. It took my customer telling them to leave her roof alone and then to start dialling the police for them to actually pack up their stuff and get off her property.
Unfortunately this is not an uncommon story you hear happening to people in the UK. Only last year I did a video about this when a couple had the very same thing happen to them with their driveway.
Don't get me wrong, if a legitimate company approaches people in a friendly manner, and doesn't try to intimidate, or has been invited, I don't have any issue with test patches, they're actually a very good way to win jobs. But not when they've been carried out in the shameful manner in which these men carried this out. All it does is just give our industry, especially roof cleaning, a bad name.
Thanks for reading this explanation behind the video, and I hope you enjoy watching the transformation. And on a lighter note, the customer was extremely happy with the end result, and is content in knowing that no one else will knock on her door anytime soon offering to clean her roof, as it's now impeccably clean, and will stay that way for many years to come ❤️.

Fortunately after all this time I seem to have plenty to keep me busy, but it still makes me angry to see stories like this. Crack on and keep raising the profile of our industry, its good work.

I had the council tell me that all the roofs and gutters in my area were being pressure washed. Around a month later, the pressure washer guys turn up. They go out back after asking to look at the job, said they’d go grab their ladders, got back in their van and drove off…….The council paid them for the job 🤦🏻 Then I had a guy from the council call to ask how the job went…….I was like, “well they were here and they did look at the job….But I’m still waiting on them coming back with their ladders.” 😂🤣🤦🏻 Dudes got paid for the 40 houses in my area and all they did was tell people they were just gonna grab ladders, then took off. 😆😂🤣

Councils are just filled with incompetent people. They have had experience with people doing this exact shit (claiming government funds for work not completed or substandard) for decades. Just look at the green energy initiatives like insulation, rendering and double glazing. It's happening with solar installations right now too. If they haven't built protection into their system of processes then in my eyes they're not looking after our money and from my time working for DWP it is imperative that government servants work with fiscal responsibility. Highlights the state of this country.

  • @joinedupjon

I find it a bit terrifying when the idea of getting unemployed people to do loft insulation is raised... Sure lots of unemployed people are decent and honest, but you know no effort by the people who end up running the scheme will be put into sorting the sheep from the goats so the government will be putting characters out of trainspotting into the homes of tenants and the elderley.

    1) I'm glad she called the police. A similar scam happened to my sister. I had asked the city to prune our street trees and they hired a contractor that then hired another contractor. An employee of the second company came onto the lawn, hacked off about a third of a tree, and asked my sister for $400. When I complained to the city, they were unable to tell me which company was involved. It was very frustrating. 2) It's too bad the neighbor didn't also hire you at the same time.

I did something similar when cleaning my solar panels. I could only work for 10 minutes at a time before having to take a break and swap my arms around. You do get a surprising amount of thrust out of the nozzle which helps. You've just got to make sure you are prepared for the thrust to disappear when you turn the pressure washer off or the end will slam into the roof.

@@heleneroberge2934 As someone older than you, I suspect that you might well be able to do this if you had the right tools and are in reasonably good shape. I could do it at your age. I'm male, but I don't really think that would make all that much difference. The trick here is that he isn't holding up the whole weight of that pole. The water jet at the end is lifting it up, and he can move it back and forth just by tilting the stick slightly. You would probably still be holding around 10 pounds (or 4 kilos) in your arms for a while though.

Only one thing I would probably have done and that would have been to do the small roof last for fear of detritus falling onto it after having just cleaned it. But that is a small thing and no doubt you checked it afterwards anyway. I loved how you cleaned up after yourself. I just read the back story you added for this video, and WOW! So glad you were able to help ease her mind by doing this without incident. I will never understand how some ppl can be so shady.. Distracting some poor woman while the other messes around the back w/o permission😡 Homie would have met his maker if that were my house, well more like my 3 Rottweiler's house😂😂 That roof turned out amazing, so great job! Much love from California🤙🏼❤

Yeah I took some advice from @PartridgeExteriorCleaning suggesting I should show more of exactly that, the hardships of the job, rather than show it all looking smooth sailing. I'm surprised that the other person on the other side didn't come out and ask you how much you charged (Unless they were at work or something). What a change! In Arizona where I live you often see clay tile roofs, but as it doesn't rain or snow much were I live is doesn't normally get like this.

I had this happen too, i told them they could do as they pleased but I wasn't interested in their service and wasn't going to hire nor was i going to pay them. They left... It's a scam to get people annoyed by the patch in hopes of being able to charge a ridiculous amount of money in the hopes the homeowner gives in out of annoyance. You did a nice job btw👍
