Heatwaves, flooding, loss of potable water, impacts on agriculture, damage to infrastructure, disease, growing costs of adaptation and to top it off political unrest are serious challenges. These aren't just singular issues in isolation, rather they feed off each other. They have a multiplying effect on the social and political effects that erode resilience but even worse make policies for adaptation more difficult.

To be exact, the greatest risk right now is global warming caused by rapid rise of human made CO2 in the atmosphere. The solution is to replace gas and diesel cars with electric vehicles, and replace petroleum base power plants with green energy such as solar, wind, hydroelectric... It's getting urgent, there could be a tipping point when temperature rise accelerate and would be difficult to reverse if we don't start acting now.

And faster than anyone can imagine. people who garden and are really connected to the earth have known this. Have seen this play out in their attempt to grow fruits and vegetables and keep things alive. On my own property, I’ve started an experiment, planting trees, berries, and vines that are a zone or two higher than our actual zone. Preparing for the inevitable so we’re not caught off guard, when the other fruit stops producing due to rushed higher temperatures.

When Edward Teller gave his historic keynote address to the American Petroleum Institute in 1959, warning about the effects that could be expected if fossil fuel consumption continued to increase, he listed the same concerns that scientists have consistently repeated ever since.

Why don't people ever talk about where the weather will be nice? Northern Canada and Russia could be lovely. Antarctica could be very nice. Climate change is the driving factor in evolution. All life alive today is due to extremely fast climate change. Super volcanos and asteroids changed the climate practically overnight. If anything, this decades long climate change is certainly preferable and allows us time to adapt. That is what humans do best. So lets focus on adapting rather than taxing our way out of climate change. The science says if we brought CO2 production down to pre-industrial levels it would take 1000 years for the Earth to START cooling.
