    I worked in a University research lab and this is how the ultrasonic with can lead to combustion: As it vibrates it causes particles of the fluid to go into the air. This creates air that is now an explosive mixture of oxygen and a fuel. If that mixture of air comes in contact with a flame or spark, you will get an explosion. Part of the safety training, and lab rules, is to never run the ultrasonic with the lid off, as it will fumigate the area, and always run the ventilation hood, to remove the explosive gas when you open the ultrasonic cleaner. It really is no joke, it can happen, and it's extremely volatile gas mixture. Should only be used in well ventilated areas, should have a fume hood, always run with lid down, and DO NOT, under any circumstances, have any ignition source around while using. I would bet the companies instruction manual or documentation has such warnings, thus protecting the company from liability.

    Absolutely, lower explosive limit for IPA is 2%. Autoignition temp is high, true but irrelevant if you have this operating next to non-Ex equipment. Flash point is 12°C meaning if the concentration of IPA in the air is above 2% and it's not freezing you can have a really bad time in your hobby room. There are ultrasonic safe organic solvents though.

    I seem to remember reading a guide to these: The US army stated you can use ISO with an ultra sonic cleaner however ISO and the item you wish to clean should be in a closed bag (like a zip lock) and the ultra sonic cleaner should be filled with water. I used it that way because you need less ISO

    When I use it, I fill the tank with 5 liters of demineralized water and use a zip bag for freezer to put my prints in with IPA. I try to push all the air out of the zip bag. It works well and it's easier to manage the alcohol and not waste too much . After each session, I empty the tank using the drain and put the water back in the jar. With this technique there is less risk of combustion. For the UV device, I agree with you. I don't know why they choose to open it by the top ( maybe it's more ergonomic when you want to put prints inside) but the combo printer, ultra sonic and cure take a lot of space.

    Nice review of the pair. I have to agreed with you on the curing station. I DOES look like it should open frontward and the fact that the rather flimsy hinges are on the lid does make it look cheap. I'm a bit surprised at the rather large dimensions of the unit and the big sides which limit the volume of the curing station. That and the fact it's a top loader means entry and egress are all the more likely to drop prints and damage them compared to Elegoo where the entire lid comes off to allow open access to them. The washing station looks like a deep fat frier for chips! I'd be keen on an ultrasonic cleaner though. I do wonder at how well the drain pipe will keep clear and not clog up with used resin after a while.

    I have never had my small ultrasonic cleaner spontaneously combust with ISO 99 in it, even with the heating turned on (although I don't usually use it with heat on. I can set the temp on mine and i set it at 50c (122F) which is less than the boiling point (82c) of iso ). I tried it with heat on and heat off to see if I got any different results in cleaning and I can't see any difference as far as cleaning goes with the temperature I use. The advantage of heat is in drying after the cleaning. disadvantage is it puts more VOC into the air. but since its in a well ventilated area it isn't that big of a deal. however on the ultrasonic cleaner instruction they don't recommend using iso as it can vaporize. and then some external source could ignite it. That however is not spontaneous combustion. this is what they say. "Use water-based detergents. Solvent-based cleaners are generally not designed for use in an ultrasonic cleaner, and may damage the stainless tank surface in some instances. Solvents with low flash points - below 200˚F, are never recommended. Plus solvents are unhealthy for humans." "Never fill the tank of an ultrasonic cleaner with alcohol, gasoline, or any other flammable liquids. They will vaporize, and could cause a fire or explosion, or release harmful gasses into the workspace." However I use iso in mine on small parts with really fine details as I don't want them to get broken by swirling around in the other cleaner. as long as you take proper care its perfectly safe.

    I've had some resin manufacturers tell me via email that there is no such thing as over-curing in the typical UV curing chambers and thus there is no such thing as an optimum time. For engineering-like resins they are quoting an hour or two and even that length of time + 60C to get full strength. Maybe the cheaper resins have a maximum cure time .above which they degrade in properties . . .

  • @HEMASimian

    @HEMASimian

    8 ай бұрын

    This. There is the resin's final state and then there's being undercured. We've tested curing prints for days under heavy duty UV hoods and they weren't any more brittle than when cured 8+ minutes per side. Undercuring your prints to be more durable is a bad idea because it'll still off-gas, and will still be toxic to the touch. There are resins that existed out there too that literally change colour depending it reached that final state or not. So "overcuring" really is not a thing.

I have found the GKTwo checks more of the pro boxes that I'm looking for (particularly the heater and air filter) than cons. Slightly higher price tag/wife finding out, lack of auto-leveling and a network module are definite cons, but the network module is (like Mr. Hammer sorta implied) on its way. So the only issue I have with this is for the low low price $259 You get a 7 l ultrasonic cleaner with a pretty interface and a pretty case but you can go buy ultrasonic cleaners that are 15 l which is a lot more parts and bigger plates you can put in for 150 bucks that are heated. Now if you're heating alcohol I guess you run the risk of having combustion because now you're raising a temperature even more but I can tell you cheaper than that but not much You can get a much bigger unit I know a place where you can get a 30 l for $285 and that's a lot of big parts for machines like the Mega 8K The Jupiter and some of these other new ones that are coming out. It is nice that it has a place you can put the build plate but it's designed for their printer which is not that abnormal so now you've got a machine that works great if you have that printer. Happy spring a little bit more say about 300 and some change 305 325 You can get a dual frequency cleaner it's 28 and 40 khz and that inherently could be a little better depending on what you need I don't think you need the dual frequency but in theory 28 kilohertz will help get different areas based on how the resin is working. It's nice product but I mean other than the lid ceiling better than the units you buy that are you know industrial I don't see the value of it over a much cheaper option

    I only see a need for these things if you are printing en masse. Occasional prints, nah.

    I emailed Uniformation and was advised that the ultrasonic cleaner had only one transducer and is "mainly designed to use IPA or alcohol as a solvent, so the cleaning power is relatively small". Normally you would expect 3 transducers in a 6L tank and it may be that the W320 has lower than the usual 40KHz ones. Bottom line is, it's not so good for normal cleaning tasks if you were thinking it may be. I got a dual frequency 28/40KHz unit instead and if I use IPA/meths I will put it and the model in a zip lock bag as advised elsewhere in these comments.

    I got my wash and cure station today and the cure station has no turn table. Emailed the company, no answer. Kinda useless with out it. I guess I'll have to send the whole thing back just because of that simple plastic part. The joke of it all is that on top was a sticker says QA passed. I guess they just toss them stickers in the boxes without really inspecting it. Pretty obvious. Stupid workers.

    There is not enough oxygen under the vat to combust the alcohol, its like trying ro light gasoline with a match allready submerged, it wont has a self sustaining combustible cycle.

    That what I thought, the main worry people had was this letting off combustible gas when you open it

    Ultrasonic cleaners are great for cleaning eye glasses, use it monthly to do, as do opticians.
