Unfiltered, Unedited: Behind The Scenes POV Pilatus PC-12NG
Join me on a super short 15nm hop from Goshen to Elkhart in the Pilatus PC-12NG. This is an unfiltered look at one of my flights. You get to see everything that happened from opening the door to shutting down the engine.

I love the first person camera. I really like seeing the pilot perspective.
This is what I call a great video. Everything about operating and flying the aircraft rather than the talking heads some people insist on showing. Thank you.
I Love how the footage was raw and how it was a POV
Yeah it looks good this format. I liked seeing the start from cold and dark and all the necessary checks required. That's cool. Thanks!

It IS an awesome airplane and I respect your piloting skills. As a pilot of 41 years, some of the flying chanels get to be a bit "more of the same." But I enjoy a few of them and yours is one. In case you're curious, I fly a 1980 Cessna 441/Conquest II out of Long Beach, CA. Just got back from San Antonio, a four hour and 15 minute flight. While the Conquest is wonderful airplane, it is a dinosaur compared to the PC12 NG.

Thanks Rob! I did one trip right seat in a 441. It’s a good airplane!
I flew the 737 und now flying the 777, but the PC12 is still for me the ultimate flying machine. The sweet spot betweem the faster TBM9XX and dual engine Kingair 2/3XX.
Grant. I know it takes a lot of your time to produce your videos. Thanks so much. Always enjoy riding along.
I am not a pilot, so I probably got more out of the FPV than others. It was great to see all your actions from your point of view. Thanks
Yes, keep posting!
Yes to this format.
POV is ok, but wouldn't want a steady diet of it. Always a pleasure flying with the pro, the Capt Grant.

PLEASE do more videos from this POV camera. I love this first person pilot view!
For us aviation geeks, seeing what happens inside the cockpit is as exiting as seeing outside! great camera angles especially the "checklist" camera where we can see the instrument panel and any interaction with the instruments/ displays. Thank you for the video.
Like the new format
Love the camera views Grant. Flew many years out of 3C1 and did my check ride at Elkhart. Love your videos and thank you, as I live vicariously through you now.

I liked the POV head mount perspective in this one Grant. As always, great video and thanks for all the work you put in to your channel.
Thank you for posting and keep up the good work. Grtz from EHBK!
Nice plane. Love your videos and Narration. Thanks
Short but sweet.. Really like this presentation.
Cool vid, sir. Kinda brought back memories of my regional 121 days in the DoJet. Thanks for sharing.
I like it. Content like this does wonders, to demystify aviation.

That was a great ride! Love camera angle...watch a lot of flight vids, but I think this is one of the best I've ever seen...felt like I was there Thanks!
I’m 3 min into the video and it’s almost like an aircraft startup ASMR. Definitely going to keep watching..
Awesome video! Would love to see more of them.

Great video ones again 👍I like this "raw" and "pov" format pretty much. The cold and dark sequence was very enjoyable. I hope to see more of this in the future. I would even like to see this unedited stuff for longer flights since I don't mind to watch 90+ minutes videos. Ok, regarding the last point, I guess there are not many crazy people like me out there who will enjoy such long unedited videos, but I definitely will. I love your content and at the end of the day, I will be happy with every video you upload. Thanks for your great work, wish you blue skies and greetings from Switzerland 😉

Excellent idea for a video, mate. Being an aviator geek myself I am a fan of seeing the pre-flight stuff, and certainly how the Pilatus works in that regard. It's a lovely machine. I also love the noise of a good 2 stage start procedure on a turboprop haha. That engine really makes a good racket when you go into low idle, doesn't it ;) Hope you're keeping well, sir.

Grant, love your videos! PC12 pilot here..recently Pilatus has told us to wait starting Bat1 and Bat2 15 seconds in between each other for overload. Not sure it makes a difference but we’ve been following ever since.
@GrantBaker
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip Landon! That’s for voltage overload to the avionics I assume? I noticed a lot of clicking on the speaker, so I started waiting until that stops (a second or two) before turning on Batt 2. I’ll add the 15 sec to my routine though.

NIcely done, many hours sitting between PT 6 engines and it took me back to my Kingair days. Not real familiar with the Pilatus line and wondered if the avionics were Honeywell. The PFD and the bulls eye flight director display are identical to the ones in the Falcon 2000LX that I presently fly. Nice vid, fly safe!

Yessir, Honeywell Primus Apex.
that looks like so much fun. The mall made me think about our local legacy mall here in Shreveport Louisiana. South Park (not that one) was all but abandon then a local church bought it and gave it a second lease on life. I didn't notice when you engaged the yaw damper. I've always wondered does the yaw damper eliminate the P factor on take-off? I enjoy your channel. thanks for sharing. Cheers from Louisiana.
@GrantBaker
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Rick! No, you want the yaw damper off for takeoff and landing. It dampens any yaw movement so it would hinder your rudder inputs. Very noticeable if you miss kicking it off for landing. You turn the YD on after raising the gear, so around 100’.
Woo! I'm surprised you didn't need a fuel stop!

It was tight, but we made it!🤣
A nice view is one of the passenger Windows on the left side. You can mount gopro over there, filming left wing. Also avoid music! The best sound is turbopropp sound. :)
Using Flightaware I found a PC12 had just left our airport en route to west Houston. I set up an alert for when it comes back, I’ll be able to see it up close.
Hi Grant, Loved the pilot's perspective but creates a vertigo effect for me while watching. Seems that I'm the only one that had this issue. Unfiltered was good. keep up the videos, I love watching!

I agree David, the movement is too fast for my preference. It was fun doing something new. Enough people seem to be liking it that I may include it in some future videos, but it isn’t going to be a regular staple. Just something to change it up a few times per year probably.

love it, you may like to try a closer angle to the displays or better a way to see what switches are being operated above. but I love the uncut style, I wish every body made videos like this. Naturally I just subscribed. keep it up sir
@GrantBaker
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I had hoped to be able to use the chest mount to show the displays better but I didn’t check the angle well enough and it ended up just the yoke. 😂
the flight prep took longer that the flight!
Lovely - enjoyed this. Is the second spike on the startup a PC-12 thing? Haven't seen this on other PT6 videos with other aircraft?
@GrantBaker

Most PT6 engines have two start stages, but I can’t say for sure that all of them do.
Definitely liked the raw footage. Since the Pilatus seems so exotic to me I would like to see the whole preflight Wait til it bets warmer though...
