Improving by racing is way more fun than structured training plans 👌

Cheers! Hopefully I'll see you in the upcoming FRR series? You did quite a few last year right?

Flame Rouge Racing, they have some pretty good series (first one starts this weekend!). Is your Zwift handle BT Doom? I think you were on my ZP nemesis list for a while :)

How often do you race? I feel like 1-2 times a week is max for me. any more than that and I'll start seeing the effects of overtraining

A normal week for me is racing about 3 or 4 times. Although they vary in length and degree of difficulty. I actually have my ZP profile link included within the details if you want a quick peek :). I try and mix in varying types of races, maybe 1 climbing stage, 1 Zwift Racing League, a TTT, and then a chase race. That is a typical week, but i also compete in some series that mimic grand tours, so i have probably 10 weeks a year im doing 6 really tough races per week. Probably is a good idea to air on the side of caution if you are feeling the effects of overtraining, but if you want to increase the amount of races you do. you could always try a shorter one as your 3rd one every other week or so. Then see how your body feels. It honestly took me a long time to get my body used to the amount of races i do per week, so its ok if it doesnt happen over night!

interesting video. i have to disagree with your final point. i tried this for over a year, racing multiple time per week. i made limited progress throughout the year which was frustrating as hell. since summer, i have used a more structured approach and reduced my number of races. i have included a number of zone 2 sessions, and also 2-3 zone 5 sessions. after about six weeks i was feeling stronger in the races and doing much much better. the problem i had, while in the races i was pushing myself, i was not doing so hard enough, for long enough due to the race dynamics. whereas a zone 5 work out pushed me beyond my limit. this made me stronger for the races.

Thanks, mate! glad to hear that switching to a more structured plan helped you improve. Constantly racing is just works well for me, but it's understandable everyone will have a method that works best for them. It's interesting to hear that doing zone 5 work pushed you beyond your limit, one of the reasons racing works well for me is, I can see common opponents at my level and think to myself if they are still in the group i have to keep pushing to hang on 😀. Great on you though for trying something new if another way wasn't working!

Haha yup maybe in just a short few months! I'm riding pretty strong now, but only a couple years ago I wasn't that strong, and I never know how long it will last for so just trying to enjoy the A cat while I can 😁

cheaters ruined zwift racing for me! btw, you are quite strong especially on a low, but intense volume

Yea cheaters definitely have ruined a couple of my races as well (a couple clips throughout my vids have some now banned racers in them, not going to name any names). I wish they could do something more at least on the blatantly obvious ones. Thanks! im trying to add more volume to my riding schedule. hoping to be able to take the next step up in the near future 😀
