😀 A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.
So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.
Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.
We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

I went to Tokyo for a short stay in my way from SK to Los Angeles. I was lost outside Shibuya railway station having taken the, very inexpensive, train from Narita. A Japanese man came over and asked me where I wanted to go to. He took me to the bus stop, came on the bus with me, walked with me to the location of my Air BnB after the bus. I would still be looking now! The people are so friendly and helpful.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us on the Premier 👍 We are looking forward to sharing the adventures as we travel around Japan - 12+ hours to fly here - 18 months to drive home to the UK - This is not an ordinary adventure and if you are watching and coming on this adventure with us - Then we are excited to have you with us, as we continue to drive our 18 year old Fiat Ducato van called Trudy around the world and back to the UK !! You are not wrong !! The old movie summer holiday with Cliff Richard springs singing - springs to mind every time I get into the driving seat !! LOL - Marianne xx
We were in Tokyo on the 11th May and were woken at 4am with an earthquake warning on my phone, then an alarm in the hotel followed by the earthquake, bed was shaking for 5 to 10 seconds, then another alarm telling you to stay in your room and stay away from windows. The alarm was more scary than the actual earthquake
It was fun watching you enjoy Japanese food. I can tell it's not a monthly treat for you. What you had is similar to what we have in Australia 😊 the vending machines, robots and the evacuation- what a great exposure to Japan.
Yokohama!! Best city in Japan
Have you noticed how well-behaved Japanese children are? That's why I first bought a Japanese parenting guide.🙂👍

You're adventure set off straight away in Japan, didn't it! 😮 So interesting how much of their day-to-day tasks are automated, but the people seem hospitable and helpful. To new horizons!!! ❤️❤️😎👍xx
Excellent video. You made me feel like I was eating and walking/train rides with you. Can't wait to see Trudy again and see your road adventures in Japan. God bless you. Pastor Dean (retired), Ocala FL USA.

I wish I were as brave as you. I would be in full blown panic mode with that transport. I didn't even like the London tube when we were there. Have a fabulous trip. Bet you can't wait see Trudie again.
Great vlog, very informative. Thank you 🙂
Hello Ambassadors Here you are..in Japan. Wondering where you were! It is very interesting,I liked the robot waitress. Jesus, a little hard to find your destination area, isn't it? Lovely people, always that respect comes out every where. Love it! Earthquake was the thing ,but their buildings were built absolutely earthquake proof ( almost). In TURKIYE we use their technique to built the buildings especially after 2023 Feb 6 earthquakes. Cleanliness is the striking thing. I was following two or three KZreadrs that they were in Japan. Nice shopping centers. Have fun you two! Love from FT. Pierce florida❤❤🇹🇷🇹🇷
My husband and I visited Japan with a similar experience. We found Japanese so helpful. Rome to Rio App is great for planning journeys and worked brilliantly in Japan.
Have a safe journey to Tokyo
Everyone should get a free nights stay for all the false alarms 😂. How terrible to be denied sleep and rest. I would have been ticked off. ❤
Haha, so much fun to watch your first impressions. But noticed right away, when you were walking downtown Tokyo, your facial expressions became more relaxed. Looking forward to things to come.
Have fun in Japan
Glad you made to Tokyo, a little scary with the alarm going off. Japan is magical, friendly and gracious people. Good luck and enjoy!🌻😍🇯🇵

Ha Ha - yes there will be one epic reunion !!
Kudos to Maryann in evacuation protocal to not brace fire protection door open.
Well, that was a shock first few hours for sure. Was surprised you have not had teriyaki sauce before, being foodies. My first was in America. Now I get it in Asda😂😂😂. Can't wait for Japan series. Stay safe xxx
Now that was stressful 😱 .. being someone who does not like big cities.. and panics at just the thought of having to use a ticket machine.. 😂 But wow the streets are so clean... are there always that few people there I wonder... or was it a Sunday in an office district you went to eat in that there so few people? That robot waiter was fascinating... And the modern skyline was like a painting.. ..And what a start to your first night! 🤭
the restaurant you ate lunch is reasonable restaulant called by "Family restaurant" in Japan. Family restaurant is like Mcdonalds or Subway in UK or US.Offcourse the dishes of those restaulant is great but there are a lot of restaulant provides more better dishes in Japan.I'm very happy to see you enjoy Japan as Japanese.Have a nice trip!
quite an adventure and drill
I'm so excited to view your Japanese experience as I know you will go out into the countryside and experience all sorts including Onsen (which should be fun haha). You can't visit them with tattoos so if you have any wear some plasters. This video was so funny - i laughed out loud many times but when it got to the Robot behind Marianne's back I lost it and was crying with laughter. Great fun video, sorry, at your expense with your train confusion and alarms and flights of stairs up and down. I love the Japanese. Don't love hectic tourist sites but hoping to see lots of countryside and village life. Have fun and enjoy!

Hello hello! Can't wait to see this new chapter 🎉. We just came back from a vacation in Japan and promised to ourselves that we will be back for even longer. Would it be possible to create a video about the cost of shipping and the process (similar to the one you did for the US)? Would be extremely helpful! Thank you and I hope you'll have fun!

💡👍Brilliant !!
Japanese people are literally the best
With the train , you should try platform 5 3/4 . Pretty cool with the robot waiter.
Love, there is a robot going behind you 🤣
Looks very very nice! That was really very nice of those people to help you with your tickets! Restores your faith in Humanity!! :-)
Don’t cross your feet when flying Chris - even if you were lying down!

Recommendation when traveling in Japan's big cities. is getting a IC-cards. They do have stopped selling some of the common cards, but you can still get cards like the "Suica tourist"-card. You can also get an App for your mobile that you can use as well (It works on Iphone, but there might be some problems on foreign Androids). - IC cards or app's you don't need to think about where you travel, you just bling when going in and out (Metro cards like the Suica etc. you need to put money in) - Note that many IC-cards, you can't get anymore, due to shortage of micro-chips (and that tourist take the card with them, instead of delivering them in for recycle). But IC-cards for tourist you can still get, since they are made of a cheaper micro-chips and last 28 days from activation.
It's not pickled mushroom, but young bamboo shoot.
Welcome to my birth country. 😊🙏🏻 Just remember, tipping is unnecessary and some see it as an insult. Be respectful, polite and you’re good to go 😆

In Osaka, you need to stand the same side of escalator as UK.
@Yappari

In Fukuoka we stand on both sides. For 2 reasons: More people get moved and, for safety reasons, it stops escalator-walkers.

Great start with the flight then oh no 😮the fire alarm confusion !!! I love the barrier idea on the underground train platforms as it’s a fear I have getting too close to the edge when it’s really busy 👌 Yet again the hospitality from the locals is first class 👏👏 How amazing only in Japan would food be delivered by a robot 🤣 Can’t wait till you guys start your travels around Japan in Trudy 🫶

Thank you for your signature and address card. I watched "UNEXPECTED FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF JAPAN". I'm looking forward to the next program. If you have the time, Japan will be in the rainy season until the end of July, except for Hokkaido. I plan to stay in Hokkaido until the end of July. This weekend is the Yosakoi Festival in Sapporo. I plan to go to the school festival of "Asahikawa Medical College". I wish you a safe and enjoyable trip.😄

I love japans
I go to Japan every year on holiday. I wouldn’t go any where else. As for train tickets it’s probably better to get an ic card.
First night False Alarm scenes were so funny! well...actually a bit scary...cos yknow...if there IS a fire/earthquake you want to get out! Fun to see Japan thru fresh eyes - and hey - the escalator etiquette thing in Kyoto - on SOME train lines - people stand on the right!!! That's a thing...and robot waitress - love those. A friend's grandchild touched one and the robot said (in japanese) "Please don't touch me!" ;-)

Thanks again to you both for a fabulous weekend !! Best wishes and love Marianne and Chris xx
Hey Chris and Marianne I’m really pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness how tidy and well mannered no panicking or noise when going down the stairs in the house everything looks immaculate and very advanced technology have fun stay safe thank you for sharing your vlogs
Tip: Just get one Ticket in the train station... As long as you do not leave the statio(s) youre fine. You'll pay the difference with your initial ticket at the last station you need to leave from.
I recommend for just about anyone arriving in Japan to pick up an IC card. They are used for the public transportation in Japan (and some vending machines and konbinis). The normal ones require a 500 yen fee that get put on to the card as fare, the tourist ones have fees but the fees are not usable as fares. Suica, Pasmo,(Tokyo) Icoca(Osaka) are the most common. You fill them with money and tap in and out on trains and buses without having to worry about buying the right ticket. At the end of your time in Japan, turn them in for any refund you have left on the card at the appropriate office, unless it is a tourist one(don't buy those).

I'm happy to have found one of the best trip vlogs in Japan. The small bowl that came with your dish at Johnasan's is 山菜のおひたし, edible wild plants/herbs boiled and seasoned with fish stock. We Japanese enjoy them as part of the blessings of mountains. But I'm not a big fan of 山菜 (pronounced "sun-sigh") either because they usually come with a squishy texture and a puckery taste. You'll encounter 山菜 more in the countryside restaurants than in Tokyo, so it might be best to ask if any of the dishes have 山菜 in them before you order🌿. Safe trips & looking forward to your next vlog!
