During the Ngaben ceremony, the deceased's body is placed in an elaborate, multi-tiered structure made of bamboo and paper called a "bade". The bade is then carried in a procession to the cremation site, accompanied by mourners, musicians, and offerings.
Once the procession reaches the cremation site, the bade is placed on a specially designed funeral pyre and set on fire. The belief is that the smoke from the cremation carries the deceased's soul to the afterlife.
After the cremation, the remaining ashes and bones are collected and placed in a special container, which is then taken to a holy body of water, such as a river or the sea, to be released. This final step is known as "nganyut" and is intended to release the deceased's spirit into the afterlife.
Overall, Ngaben is a highly revered and elaborate ceremony that reflects the Balinese people's strong beliefs in the cycle of life and the importance of honoring the dead.
