84edo just means there's 84 notes to an octave instead of 12 like in most music, and I'm using a subset of 8 of those notes in this song.

So anything that can be played in 12edo can also be played exactly the same in 84edo, even though there are lots of other scales that can be played, like for instance MOS:es (Moment Of Symmetry, acronym in plural) of the Orwell temperament, for which we usually use 19 steps of 84edo (19\84, read as 19 of 84) as a scale generator (together with the octave itself as a "period"), in order to represent a tempered 7/6 subminor third. In Orwell temperament seven subminor thirds minus one octave make one fifth. And the tempered 3/2 fifth of 84edo is correctly 49, just what we get from 7*19 - 84 = 49. Also, the (best) 3/2 fifth of 84edo is actually the same as the fifth of 12edo. So 84edo is also a Compton temperament, making twelve (tempered) 3/2 fifths the same as seven (possibly but usually not tempered) 2/1 octaves. 12edo is of course the simplest Compton temperament (except for 0edo which has only one tone whatsoever, no octave multiples, and is a trivial representative of every temperament whatsoever), but 24edo, 36edo, 48edo, 60edo, 72edo, 84edo, 96edo, etcetera up to 25*12edo, but not 26*12edo and above are also Compton temperaments. I don't know if your temperament/scale used in this song has any name (otherwise you may invent one, and perhaps post it on the xenwiki), but it most likely has a period of ¼ of an octave, i.e. 21\84 = 3\12 = 1\4, the interval that is used as a minor third in 12edo, but which is not the (best) tempered 6/5 minor third in 84edo, which is actually 22\84 = 11\42. Instead 21\84 is a tempered 19/16 minor third as well as a tempered 32/27 (Pythagorean) minor third. I still can make neither heads nor tails of your 4L4s MOS scale, but i like the song nonetheless.

It is this scale that seems to be chosen in a very "random" way, although i might be wrong about that. If you play e.g. Orwell temperament in 84edo with a MOS scale of say 9 or 13 notes (or 22 or 31 notes if you are feeling bold), then it doesn't sound like fretless at all.

@@henrikljungstrand2036 Lots of my scales are chosen randomly! I literally type some miscellaneous numbers into Scale Workshop and see how they sound, and if I like the result enough I'll take a crack at writing music with it. My process is, uh, not very technical.
