I love "discard at the beginning of your turn" as a general rule. It grants you additional flexibility to actually react to the moves of your opponents.

Really enjoy this format Paul. I just don't have the attention span for longer videos. Great video and I've added Underwater cities to my wishlist!

I agree with you regarding the rule book. I think it one of the most well written I’ve seen in some time.

Great review Paul, very informative as well as entertaining. I’ve enjoyed my two plays of the game enough to keep my eyes out for hopefully and improved 2nd printing. I’ve not done well at it yet, which is why I’m keen to play it more!

Love the T-shirt. It's a nice nod to Vladimir. Last Will is one of my favorites. Thanks for the review Paul.

Thx for the video. I also like this game very much. Played it with two different groups each once and a few solo games. The game length for the first games is very high which was mentioned by a few players, but I like it none the less. With four players I would say they should all know the game otherwise it gets very long.

how is the solo mode? :)

  • @OutOfCuriosity

@@wicked8576 I like it. The solo mode is very simple. Certain action spots will be occupied by a dummy player, so they are not available in your current round. The next round the ocuppied action spots are rotated clockwise. Thats it basically, there are some minor tweeks but basically the solo play is a puzzle to collect as much points as possible for the cards you are working with.

I think it's sad that somehow long play times for a game are now considered negatives. Some of the best game experiences I've ever had have some come from games with long play times. If the game feels right at it's length, then it shouldn't be a negative.

I agree. It's not a negative thing for me, but I know it is for a lot of people.

I have to agree as well. As I grew in this hobby, I found the best experiences have been in either lighter repeatable games, or heavier more in depth games. People that scoff at a 2 hour game are missing out on a wonderful experience.

Love this game, and very nice review of it. I think they are purple-ish. Maybe when people bring it up, you can just tell them that they are designed to look how purple would look if it was that far underwater. 😁

Gaming Rules! Ah. Well that explains why when I tried to search google all I found were links to places that sell shirts with elderly people’s picture on them. Great shirt. Will be forever envious.

Hi Paul, regarding balance in the game: Jeremy Salinas has stated on BGG that the Kelp Farming strategy is overpowered (or at least consistently hard to beat). Would you agree? Another top notch video!

I don't know. I'd need to seriously try it and find out.

The summary of the debate on the subject appears to be that kelp is a strong strategy that is easy to pick up for people new to the game, but there are other equally strong strategies. Kinda like going heavy cows in GWT is an obvious 'newbie' strategy.

You sure that you find the rulebook well written? As I read it the first time in Essen, I was befuddled how messy the rules were structured and they did not explain things in the proper order or layout. It had important rules hidden in sidebars where they talk about a whole different rule. I honestly would not recommend writing rules in this style.

Most rulebooks could be better, I just found this one ok. There was a lot going on, but overall, everything was in there.
