Understanding VW California Electrics - Part 1 | California Chris

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today is the first part in a two part series where we're I'll talk you through the VW California electrics. We've done a video similar to this before where I explained how the electrics worked in terms of charging and capacity, but today the focus is on your actual electric sockets - where you can charge, what you can charge, what works when plugged in at home or on a campsite, etc.
If there's a question you'd like to ask on this let me know in the comments. Make sure to subscribe to catch the second part of this video coming soon!
Thanks for watching. California Chris.

Great video. Funny observation when watching british Cali-videos - The kettle issue always gets emphasized. Myst be all the tea you fellas drink ;-)

That's the exact reason it gets emphasised, yep!

As usual, a great video Chris. I always look forward to them! I guess if we forget, and overload the system the trip switches in the vehicle will trip, and we'll know we've done something wrong. I get my brand new Cali 6.1 later this year so I look at your great videos over and over again. Thanks so much for all the trouble you go to!! Gina.

Thank you Chris, v helpful video as always. My Cherry red Coast arrives soon, so I was admiring the colour of your Ocean. And I had no idea about that socket tucked away under the rear bench seat, v useful to know.

Hi, can you use the 300w inverter while you are driving?

Dear Chris, we have enjoyed cruising all over Europe for the best part of 6 months with our GC, acquired in June 2021. Our sun panel gets the AGM battery loaded, the booster compensates for the lack of sun. Does it make sense to,have the AGM replaced by a Ion Lithium Life40? German and Dutch dealers offer this possibility? Thank you for your advise. Guy

This is very useful, thank you. For the beach, do the same principles apply on the T6.1? Inverter under the seat runs off the leisure battery and there is a plug in the "kitchen" that only works with the hook up? Thanks again!

I believe so, but I will revisit this video when we have our Beach on-site.

I’ve been looking at these and understand the Beach Tour only has the socket under the drivers seat off a leisure battery under the passenger seat via the inverter. But this doesn’t have EHU so no further sockets. Beach Camper does have EHU and, looking at other videos on KZread and also visible in picture in brochure, has sockets presumably only supplied by this on sidewall above the gas cylinder behind the driver’s seat similar to Coast/Ocean albeit that on these it’s on end of kitchen rather than sidewall. Shame there’s no EHU on Tour (due to two sliding read doors) so dependent on leisure battery on that unless you get an aftermarket mod.
