I've had a JB Custom spinning rod with this action and 6'6" now since 2007. It's my favorite topwater rod.

I understand exactly what he’s saying. I have a favorite topwater rod that does well with a spook jr. but not with a yozuri. Casts both of them into the next zip code but control is different. Great info CA, thanks for giving me yet a little more smarts on the topwater that we all love. I make an hour drive to mosquito lagoon to fish topwater after the sun comes up enough to see and head home when it shuts off sometimes. Dear to my heart, nothing better.

I know this is a top water rod video. But I’m in need of some advice on what you’re go to jig rod and reel combo is. Thanks for any advice.

In your opinion is there such thing as too fast of an action for topwater lures? I’m using an old bass rod (7’2” MH XF) and feel like I am over gunned a bit. I’m decently tall and fish from a bay boat so the length doesn’t bother me but the rod doesn’t really load up much on a strike. Might be more of a 90/10 vs the 80/20 you reference. I throw it with mono now to help “slow” it down which leads me to working a bit harder vs braid which is my preference. Considering reevaluating my setup and swapping for a 6’9”-7’ Med F Shimano GLF.

Shimano has always been and will be my reel of choice, I own dozens. But, I recently (base off your recommendation) picked up a couple GLF rods. Great action and feel but 3 months in landing a 10" my 7'6" broke about 12" down from the tip (should not have happened). I contacted Shimano, and lets just say it was not what I expected nor what it should have been. Don't want to publically bash them but reels yes...rod I would recommend staying away from them.

Which Medium PX are we choosing here the fast or the extra fast? They have both. It sounded like you were recommending the extra fast then you showed us the fast action.

I got a saltwater St Croix 7.5 foot casting rod on sale and I’ve been thinking it’s a little too long for what I want and thanks for confirming that. What pound test braid do you use in the Curado?

All my fellow florida anglers just refuse to learn a bait caster. I fish a bait caster in 15mph plus winds as I'm sure you texas guys do.

CA, Can you please explain why you like a fast tip for top water vs why bass guys would rather throw something with a softer tip to let a fish eat?

Which reel did you pair with the Taramar XX? I haven’t used a casting rod in years but I’m in the market for one.

I have a Shimano Curado K Baitcasting Reel - CU200XGK on my 6ft9in. I think that is what CA also uses. Great reel.

I recently picked up a curado K, slx dc, diawa tws sv 103, and curado 150 mgl. The curado 150 mgl is an amazing reel that I would use to do anything inshore. I threw 1/16 buggs to 3/4 plugs and it was great. The Diawa Tws SV was a very close second if not even with it. Either one is an excellent was to spend 200 dollars.

Don’t know hull only pricing but hull, motor (25 Yamaha) and trailer is about 30K
