How to Choose the Right Inshore Rod! The Best All Around Rod!

Selecting an inshore saltwater fishing rod can be overwhelming and it is definitely a financial investment! I got with Mike up at my favorite store, Anglers Anonymous, and we went through some of the most popular actions to help clear up the common terminology that we so often hear.

    Thanks, gentleman, for doing this video; great explanitions of what each rod rating means, and how that applies to its preformance with different types and weights of lures. Most people have no idea what type of rod helps, or hinders, the angler to get a lure, or terminal tackle, to preform the way they want, and need for success.

Can you make a video on casting tails, plugs, and bait on a Carolina rig or under a cork? It would certainly help me if I could get the maximum distance on each cast and also save headaches from the wind knots. Thanks keep the videos coming!

    Remember when you could choose between brands as opposed to having to buy whatever is available? That said, this is my 7th straight year making a trip down to SW Florida (plus a week in SE Louisiana) to kayak fish and this is my arsenal now: - a Daiwa BG2500 on a 7'6" ML fast action rod with 15 lb braid main line for flats fishing - A Daiwa BG3000 on a 7'6" MH fast action rod with 20 lb braid main line for fishing along mangroves, need the added strength to keep snook and redfish from running deep into the mangroves - A Daiwa BG3500 on a 7'6" heavy fast action rod with 30 lb braid main line, this is primarily for fishing heavy (2oz+) jigs in bridge pilings but can also be used to throw large lures at any tarpon I might come across. - I have another BG3000 on a 7'6" MH fast action rod I will be bringing only if the parts to fix the reel arrive in time. This will used for the same purpose as the other BG3000, only rigged with a different lure for convenience. And a new Hobie Compass kayak so I no longer have to use paddles! Paddle kayaks are great and I caught a ton of fish on my old Tarpon 120, but you can't paddle and handle a rod at the same time and this means a LOT less time spent fishing. Can't wait to break in the Compass!

If the rod doesn't feel comfortable when I am holding it I move on to the next one regardless of brand. I have been using Fishstix lately because I like the way feel when I hold it. I have a falcon I absolutely do not like the grip of, I all but have to force myself to fish with it. the old All Star shrimptail special is still my favorite of all time.

    Captain- A bit of a reverse question for you. First off, the rod vid is great I knew a lot of the info however, I always pick up a few of the finer points bite when I pay close attention. Now, Im throwing a 7' Ultralight Old 18 Suppressor. Usinga Curado DC and Curado K but feel there may be a better baitcasting reel for the job. I use it when bite is slow and I start reducing size of lures down to 1/16 jig heads, Tiny Torpedos, etc. Any thoughts? Thanks and as always, keep em comin'.

  • @CaptCalebTV

    @CaptCalebTV

    4 жыл бұрын

    I couldn’t speak intelligently on the subject because I haven’t used any of what you’re using. I have witnessed the DC being used and it did well. I do know there are settings on that reel that can be adjusted to give you more distance at the cost of control. Maybe start messing with that?

    Great video! I also watched your video on Corkys. One thing that has me confused is the lure rating. The Corky Fat Boy weighs 7/8 of an ounce but most of the inshore rods that I've seen people using for artificial lures or have been recommended to me have a lure rating up to 1/2 an ounce or 3/4 of an ounce. I looked up the Laguna Solo and it has a lure rating of up to 1/2 an ounce. My 7ft and 6.6 ft Medium Falcon rods have a lure rating of up to 1/2 an ounce. Can I throw a Fat Boy with them or the Laguna or will that hurt the rod? Thanks so much for your videos. I have learned a lot.

    How do you explain the difference in terminology between different manufacturers/rod builders? My understanding is that there is no industry standard for a medium-light/medium/medium-heavy. One rod band labeled medium strength may feel the same as a medium-heavy in a different brand. Does this discrepancy tend to make you stay with one specific rod manufacturer?
