Hi. In this video, we look at what are slats and the influence it has on the critical angle of attack. We see how slats allow an aircraft to fly at low speeds and at higher angle of attack. We also look at the types of slats and focus more on the type which is commonly used on modern aircraft. We see what is meant by critical angle of attack and how it changes when slats are extended.

so it's basically just like normal flaps

Not really. The slats earn their money by letting the wing and flaps tolerate a much higher AoA. It's not the slats themselves but what they let the wing do that would otherwise cause a stall.
