Understanding Reflex Stabilization

Just about all of the fundamental activities we do throughout the day from picking up objects off the ground to simply opening a door require reflex stabilization. Reflex stabilization is what occurs in and around joints such as the spine and shoulders when lifting or moving objects. This should happen naturally without thinking to properly position the joints so good movement can occur. However, too often the proper timing and sequencing don't occur due to many factors which then sets the stage for inefficient movement which may lead to injury. A fundamental way to train the proper sequencing is to create compression or distraction in the joints. This quadruped activity does just that, it forces compression on the spine which creates better core engagement and spinal positioning.
