Understanding Oxygen Systems in an Aircraft |Oxygen Masks| FIXED & PORTABLE Oxygen System | HYPOXIA

Hi. In this video we look at the different oxygen systems that are available or installed on an aircraft. The oxygen system is normally not required because the pressurization system ensures sufficient oxygen is available inside the aircraft.
But because of some failures the cabin altitude will increase causing a lack of oxygen inside the aircraft. So the oxygen system becomes essential. In this video we look at the different oxygen systems present in the aircraft, how they are deployed and how the work and what is meant by Hypoxia. We also see the time of useful consciousness and see why it is important during an emergency.

    How do aeroplane engines get oxygen on higher altitudes? As we know we breath hard already on 16thousand feets.

  • @JxJAVIATION

    The oxygen at higher levels is sufficient for the engines. Less thrust is required at higher altitudes, because the Drag is reduced.

    The pressure inside the aircraft's cabin, will be same as the pressure at 8000ft outside the aircraft. This is called as cabin altitude!

    How bout the aircraft engines ? How do engines take sufficient oxigen ? Is there a seperated oxigen tanks start to burn in high altitudes ?

  • @JxJAVIATION

    @JxJAVIATION

    The engine efficiency may degrade when flying at higher altitudes but there are no separate oxygen tanks for the engines. Oxygen is not required for engines as long as they are within the Earth's atmosphere.

    @@JxJAVIATION oxygen is required for combustion of the fuel but the compressors in the jet engine sufficiently compress the outside air to increase thrust and concentrate oxygen required for combustion. Look into how a Turbofan engine works to understand this. Turbofans use propeller and jet engine technology.

    If the pressure reduces the oxygen content in the air reduces as well; and less air is available in the air for breathing!

    5:50 in case of fire in the cockpit, when pilots use O2 from the portable cylinder which might be available at some aircraft--> they are going to put themselves in a danger--> O2 is one of 3 elements of fire, oxygen cylinder, in that case, should be away from any source of the fire. I do not get this video. It does not make any sense to me

  • @JxJAVIATION

    If the fire is in the cockpit, there are portable fire extinguishers that are used to extinguish the fire. Fire could most likely occur in the Cockpit Avionics Bay and not directly in the cockpit but will lead to smoke inside the cockpit, so the crew have to use the oxygen masks. The oxygen cylinder will provide oxygen to the masks and not be supplying oxygen to the fire!
