Understanding CVT Transmissions | How CVT works?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Why many people don't like CVT Continuously Variable Transmissions? Are CVTs bad transmissions? In this video animation we will explore the basic principle and inner workings of CVT. It is like a transmission with infinite number of gears. It is used by many vehicles due to the smooth driving experience it provides. It switches back and forth for maximum torque or maximum power, to give the driver the best performance and giving also the best gas economy.

That is why if you floor it and the engine just drones, it is spooling up. In other words, one pully is opening up/getting wider and the other is closing up getting narrower. and they cannot do this instantly, it takes a while. I in essence that is how they change gears. You actually get faster acceleration if you progressively press on the accelerator as opposed to just smacking it to the floor.

Operates like My Yamaha Snowmobile. Still not big fan of these transmissions. To many drawbacks not good for Sustained speeds, sudden accelerations from stop, fluid changes every 30,000 miles (Customers are not going change fluid every 30,000 miles) and towing not recommended. I drive a 2016 Chrysler 200C AWD transmission fluid is good around 100,000 miles.

Yep. My 10th Gen Honda Accord 1.5 has a little delay to accelerate. Unlike manual conventional transmission in the past, real acceleration was palpable.

Fascinating. Having grown up driving nothing but a truck (which accelerates like a brick regardless of transmission) and Subarus (all CVT), I honestly never noticed this delay. The smaller, lighter Subaru SUV accelerated faster even with the CVT transmission, and it never even occurred to me that the engine could accelerate faster. It already could accelerate far faster than anything that was ever necessary on your average drive. 😂
I still don't understand how the system works when switched to manual and offers (for example) a 5 gear selection on a system where actual gears do not exist.

the computer calculates the perfect ratio for that specific "gear set" and then translates it to the perfect belt placement. Watch at 0:54 to 1:10. the computer just has those perfect ratios set to achieve what would be those gears on a standard transmission! hope this helps!

Engine r.p.m. is always at peak loud and engine wears faster.
What are you talking about "from max torque to max power" as if the two are different ends of mechanical input, max torque is what makes max power, in power u just consider rotational speed

Actually horsepower is measured by torque multiplied by RPM divided by 5252 stop pretending like your smart online 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

It's calculated by measuring the power needed to move 550 pounds one foot in one second, or 33,000 pounds one foot in one minute.
This is Star Trek tech for today.

I was trying to find videos about defication..why was this video recommended?
It works like a snow mobile clutch from 40 years back. Typical copy cat. nothing new but made overly complicated.

Based on formula one race car transmissions.. the "complications" are called engineering
Unlike my Toyota 5 speed with 342k miles that still works perfectly the CVT will fail as I have seen in my step sons Altima, Chrysler, and another car I can not remember. They are junk. All failed under 100k miles.

Nissan and Chrysler are probably the worst CVT's out there. You get Toyota's ECVT and it's a whole different story.

Yeah my family’s Subaru CVT’s are both still going strong. Comparing a Toyota to a Chrysler was always going to be cruel regardless of transmission. 😂
So it’s a snowmobile clutch. Not a new thing yet again. Any new inventions in the last 70 years?

Uh? Normal automatic transmissions? Now *those* are outright sorcery. Plus the computer that controls these CVTs to handle road driving. Your satellite SOS. The infotainment system. Car sized AC units. Among others.
