Hop Latent viroid (HpLVd) has emerged as a widespread and infectious disease of cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.) plants that has severe economic impact through reduction in growth of affected plants and reduced cannabinoid production. Surveys conducted in cannabis production regions in North America indicate that up to 50% of production facilities have HpLVd. The objective of this research was to demonstrate the impact of the viroid on growth of different genotypes of cannabis, as well as on trichome development and THC production. Studies on transmission and spread of the viroid were also conducted. Five genotypes showed a reduction of 12-48% in development of inflorescences and a 28-39% reduction in THC production at harvest.
There were significant differences in viroid infections in an additional 25 genotypes assessed, suggesting that genetic selection for resistance has potential. Affected genotypes did not show a reduction in trichome density, but rather trichome stalk length and head gland diameter were significantly affected, leading to lower cannabinoid accumulation. The viroid was readily spread through vegetative propagation, and cut surfaces of stems were especially vulnerable to infection. Following introduction of the viroid by artificial inoculation, it was first detected in the root of affected plants (within 2 weeks), and subsequently had spread to young developing leaves followed by older leaves (within 4 weeks). Infection through roots was also observed in hydroponic cultivation. Root sampling provided a highly sensitive and reliable method for HpLVd detection compared to leaves. These findings have implications for an industry struggling to manage Hop Latent viroid.

I’m from the uk and this wiped me out I lost 12 prized mothers and had x2 bad runs before I figured out what was actually happening. Mine spread initially through thrips then I was using aeroponic propagation machine and that was the silver bullet . Listen and learn people because this viriod isn’t messing about 💀

Got 2 cases from strain supermarket in the UK excellent prices on beans I can't complain but I give breeder another try on some other strains still. NL X AK 47 infected and pine apple express photos both were HLV. Positive+.

Nothing like bubonic plague…. It won’t kill the plant, just stunts it. Doesn’t cause noticeable symptoms. Bubonic plague is highly symptomatic and potentially lethal. The main problem with HLVd isn’t its lethality, but it’s severe stunting effects coupled with being highly contagious and cunning.

I picked up four clones from a pop up and I noticed the growth on them was really tight, thought to myself..sick big yields. Then I put them in the greenhouse and transplanted. The new growth was completely different from the bottom of the plant. But I hear the the sun may help with keeping it at bay. And maybe why the plant grew better? Idk

My whole plant only has finger leafs and crazy short internode spacing. It did have 6 finger leaves but they were so deficient looking so I took them off. I flowered the original mother plant and was great smoke and good harvest weight. It showed deficiency mid way in flower. Now the question is do I toss this plant away ?

Also the cause of CHS, Cannabis Hypermesis Syndrome in humans, from smoking HLVd contaminated cannabis. Need anti-virals to get better, or something like Black-Walnut Wormwood tincture which was used as an old-world malaria treatment, and works against fungi, bacteria, virus, and stomach biome imbalances.

What is going on with your data??? At 17:37 I noticed that the data maybe in the incorrect order The values on the left side/Fraction HLVD+ don’t match the bars. As a matter of fact it appears like they were mixed up. You also can’t tell the difference between the viral load of 0.85 and 0.95921 (your decimals are also in the wrong place.).They look exactly the same And additionally there is also a number of missing/incorrect decimals. So it would appear that female 3 should be switched with female 1 followed by female 1 to female 2 and female 2 to female 3 The blue bars should be all the same height and have a decimal after the 12. That would mean that the bars are not matching their true value. With all the issues of research data fraud going around the world it’s really really important to check your data and then double check! People are going to be paying attention. By no means am I saying that anything is suspicious.Just noticed that the data didn’t match or maybe I missed something? I loved the information you have provided to the industry.it’s been an area that’s needed scientific research for decades. I’m finally glad that we are finally able to see a much larger picture of the viroid. Thank you for your team’s efforts and in depth analysis.❤ Keep up the amazing work!❤❤❤

You should show before and after DNA tests because it doesn’t make sense to leave out the control for each test. Makes samples less credible

When your doctor tests you for AIDS, he doesn't also test someone else for AIDS. It's not an experiment, he didn't do anything to you that he expects would change the results that he can then not do to the other person. It's just a test.

    >>> how long does it stay on surface??? 5 days they say??! >>> can you wash it off with soap and water? What happens if i wash infected gloves or surfaces? What if i have it on clothes, with running clothes through a clothes washer +dryer with soap and water work, or simply now did i infect all of the clothes i washed in that clothes washer? What if >> someone in say cali has infected grow works at a grow supply company touches grow products like bamboo stakes or whatnot and those products are shipped to maine now maine guy puts stakes on plants and plants are infected >>> how about THAT??? cause if you have a thing active/alive on a surfce for 5 days, air and light dont kill it, nothing but bleach kills it, and washing it away doesnt really work... then what??? How sticky is this thing? We need to get on this now before its too late

I do tissue culture , it is hard to get it out of a plant even doing that. It is ripping through everyone’s grow. You have to tissue culture and test. No way around it right now. Your grow will have to be self contained and tested with clean plants. If not you will get it. You will never know it at first and if it’s in your room everything will get it

Everything you just said will result in contamination if you cut anything after it’s in the grow space. It lives for up to 4 weeks if there’s any plant cells in/on those gloves/clothes/stakes too. Heat and water doesn’t kill it, that’s just spreading it and helping it grow lol
