Understanding the gaps in the STUDY ABROAD MARKET?

⭐️ Think School’s flagship Communication course with live doubt sessions :
thethinkschool.com/sp/communi...
VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
Hi everybody!
In 2023 there were 6.4 million students studying abroad all across the world. But Out of these 6.4 million students, 1.3 million students were just Indians! And if you look at the money they are spending on this study abroad journey, it will blow your mind!! In just 1 year of 2019, Indian students spent 37 billion dollars in studying abroad!!! And this number increased to 47 billion dollars in 2022, and is expected to reach 70 billion in 2025!! You know how much 70 billion dollars is,
It is more than 5 times Reliance Jio’s annual revenue of 12 billion dollars and 1.6 times Tata Motors annual revenue of 42 billion dollars!!!
And if you consider 1.5 million students in 2025 with a 70 billion dollar spend, each student who is studying abroad will spend, 46,666 dollars, or 38.8 lakhs per year on an average!!
Now I don't know if you sense this but, any place where a rich consumer spends with a consistent pattern is a huge market opportunity!! And in India, this is a very rare sight!! Why?? Look at this chart, If you remember our Indus Valley report episode, we learned that the gold mine in India is not 1.4 billion people it is only 22 million people!! Why?? only 22 million people in India pay income tax, 74 million file for taxes, and only 4.5 million as in 0.3% of Indians contribute to 80% of the total income tax paid in India but the rest 1.4 billion people do not pay income tax at all!!!! So if you want to build a fast-growing, high ticket, high margin product to sell in India, this 22 million population is where you can make money!! Everywhere else, you can only make money with low-margin and low-cost products!!
So to understand this consumption class better, Blume Ventures put out this report, which said that India can be categorized as India 1 which is 30 million households with an average income of 15,000 dollars, and India 2 which has 300 million people with an average income of 3000 dollars per person and India 3 which has 1 billion people with an average income of 1000 dollars per person!! and you can see them as 3 different countries, which are Mexico, Indonesia, and Sub-Saharan Africa based on their consumption levels!!
And the consumption of India 1 is so disproportionately high that if you look at this chart, they alone consume 89% of the beauty products, 70% in Dining, and 79% of the entire food and beverage consumption in India!! So 120 million people as in less than 10% of the population is consuming 3 times more than the rest 1.3 Billion people combined!!
And these 13 lakh students who study abroad belong to this golden category of India 1 because they are spending 46 lakh rs a year!!!
So if this small subset of students has a lot of money, a lot of problems, and most importantly, if they all have a common behavior, this means it is a gold mine opportunity for you to build products and services for this one category!!!
This is the reason it is important to study this market both as investors and entrepreneurs!!
So the question is,
What does the higher education market in India look like?
What are the problems students face in their education journey?
What are the gaps that Indian startups are finding to build a business in this space?
And where can you find an opportunity in this space?

Ganesh sir, Please make a video on indian reservation system , is it really helping lower caste people or is it causing our country damage by accelerating brain drain in our country. It is so painful to see our country's human resources getting exported to foreign developed countries . On top of that , INDIA alliance is aiming to even remove the reservation limits. Please make a case study to help us understand the scene in a better way.❤️ And as always, loved your this video too.😊

To escape the reservation in india moving abroad and keeping money in other currency than INR is necessary. So currently for the general category, having to study in India is the worst thing possible. As soon as you convert the currency back to INR, that money is going to be stuck since the inefficient reserved officials in the government are so slow and sometimes corrupt that it is difficult to even operate properly

But for a medical degree scenario is not true. Most of them go to Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia for a low cost MBBS degree. In India the cost to study in private college medicine is so high. That's why doctors who come out of medical colleges mostly loose service mentality. Of course PPP is important factor but that wont solve the problem a person earning 23lacks in india will still choose 100k in US or can even live with 80k. And this is more better choice for people who likes traveling abroad or consuming foreign products. As an example a person working in the US will have to spend a lesser part of his salary on flights or other tourist expenses plus if he wants to buy a Tesla or Mustang that would not be a bigger expenditure as compared to an Indian salary. Moreover, a better lifestyle and better use of taxes is an addon.

And let me tell you that the going abroad hype will soon hit its peak as getting work is hard, expense of living is through the roof and getting permits (PR in CA, H1B in USA, etc.) is getting tough by the day if already not. The four major countries are saturating and now people are looking to move more towards smaller European countries. Prasad, this video could've used some research from the aspect of shifting trends and interviews of ground reality as businesses are being built around it, but the platform would certainly be a lot volatile in some time as they loose their sheen.

On the other side i think you should have mentioned how much the student sending money back to india which has few players who managing and the amount is US $125bn all together. Also added to that housing rip offs the student by charging extra. Thats why everyone prefers to take rent home or stay with friends. I would be better if someone helps to find them whole home or apartment which lot of indian are doing and makes a business out of it. Food wise it’s impossible to get into market as big brand has such a monopoly by literally set a bottom prise and give inventives to big markets or shops.

So in General Indians are earning higher (but because of averages from other sections, it might look lower) 7:28 - $100k personally for me goes a long way than ₹23 lakh in India (because I can save and send way much more money back home)

Why the fees in India is not as compared to PPP with other countries. I say people to go explore how the world looks like and being a student is the best way for it. But dont take huge loans for it. Either go through scholarships or explore Europe its very cheaper compared to India also but you have to work part time in order to cover up your expenses. So if you are open minded want to explore something new early in life take a chance and go. Even if you like country stay there or come back that is your decision but dont spend your family hard earned money in this instead earn yours

Hey there! I've been following the content closely, and while I appreciate the focus on established entities in India, I feel like there's a gap for aspiring individuals, especially students. Many of us tuning in are eager to kickstart our own ventures or initiatives, so it would be awesome if the channel could open up to applications from such folks and provide guidance on how to get started. Regarding the recent video about potentially leaving India, I totally get the need for a hook, but I couldn't help but feel that it didn't quite cater to the student audience as much as usual. It'd be great to see more content that directly adds value to students' lives, maybe by diving into topics like the ones mentioned below: 1. How many of the 1.3 million students studying abroad rely on loans to fund their entire journey? 2. On average, how long does it take for graduates to pay off their student loans? 3. What proportion of the 1.3 million Indian students abroad come from middle-class backgrounds? These questions could spark some interesting discussions in the comments section and provide valuable insights for students navigating their academic and financial journeys. Looking forward to more engaging content!

Ok there is a flaw in your research, while you are saying 100000 US dollars equivalent to 23 lacs, you missed the point that staying in US you can actually save a lot of money when converted into INR whereas 23 lacs is not just enough to save money and live in the metro city at the same time. So this PPP concept is just a way to comfort Indian students that don’t worry you are not missing much staying in India

@poojakanchan I totally understand he is famous youtuber. Reality is, youtubers are hellucinated influencers with their very limited & biased perspective & their tendency to measure everything from objective sense, which is too dangerous for anyone who is new who wants to pursue international study & might get demotivated because of it. Forget about money, salary, growth perspective, multicultural experience, ease of living, the biggest advantage of internal study is exposure. You can always work in india since you are indian citizen for lifelong. But gaining a international is equally important in your working age to broaden the perspective & save yourself from myopic view. Few KZreadrs which are basically unemployed people from their past right after their college who couldn't & didn't choose the career which doesn't suit them, started to spread negative views about it, & hence it's important to deinfluence such people by someone who actually gone through it.

Hello Think school, You have done a very good analysis of the situation. Regarding the Indian food industry in Abroad, specifically packed one you talked in last of this video. My answer to that is yes, plenty of opportunities in Europe too. But the problem is the regulations or strict so exporting a ready made food to EU from outside is so expensive. In Ireland before brexit all food used to come from UK . But now it has. Come more expensive too. The market gap I found in Ireland is more quality ready made food is required with strict regulations

This video neatly explains the BUSINESS of Education. How Students/their Parents are the "Subscribers", and how Subscriptions are sold to them. Students who opt for a Foreign Education are aiming for MUCH More than Education. Not only is the acceptance rate far better, but Foreign institutes do not have Reservations or Minority Quotas. This makes it (more-or-less) an equal-opportunity game. This extends to the post-education Job market, where a foreign education is usually considered more valuable. Several foreign-education students don't even think of returning to India EVER. The Indian Education System, including the Higher Education Degree Colleges, has been steadily descending into utter Chaos. The Core Education, let alone the Quality, has deteriorated significantly. Hence, anyone hoping to build on "Soft Skills", usually considers looking beyond India.
