In a baile por Taranto, the dancer and the guitarist must “contestar”, respond to the cante at specific places in the letras. These contestaciones are accompanied by a typical guitar melody which is very useful to practice in order to fully understand how it all works. There are 3 rules of the standard contestación: pickup, 2 compases, closes on 3. Explanations in the video ;-)

I just discovered your channel (great!) Taranto is one of my favorite palos and I notice a variety in how the transition between the Taranto and Tangos occurs. Most satisfying is when the first line of the transitional letra is in the Taranto pace/speed, a slight pause and then Tangos kicks in (rather than transitional letra starting off in Tangos).

Maestro, gracias por los video clips! I don't know how I could have danced for years without counting - I knew I should have been counting but it was easier not to and with the distraction of learning steps, it wasn't required. But I'm starting to understand how it is essential!
