You asked for it @7:12. Here's a lyric por zambras: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lYKoxMimaLvRls4.htmlfeature=shared&t=108 and here's the same lyric por tangos: kzread.info/dash/bejne/on2V2bBrZLeXpso.htmlfeature=shared&t=15 Maybe this doesn't count because zambra and tango are in the same family.
Thanks! Yes this is the same style or variant. Zambra and tangos are very much linked ;-)
It's so beautiful. I hear Tiento/Tango melody in the third line ' "dille que se calle". Is that how it's identified as Tiento? Or because it's an intro to a Tiento..
Yes it is beautiful! It’s not intrinsically an intro or anything, It’s just a traditional style of tiento ;-) she’s singing the style with the traditional melody usually associated to these traditional lyrics. The only change here is the arrangement (they chose to do it without compás, and they created a more modern guitar and sound effects arrangement) otherwise it’s completely traditional. It’s actually very close to Morente’s version of los tientos de Chacón. I hope it makes sense 😅
That’s so interesting - I think I’ve heard the letra sung por tiento with a different melody, maybe was a different style - and por tangos and I didn’t know this melody. I think I found the Chacon version to study. 😮
I have recently been introduced to Rosalia and listening to her album Los Angeles. I noticed the guitar in her music has a folky sound very loose strings sounds like a 12 string guitar difficult to recognise the compas but she has mesmerising vocals with arabic /eastern influence maybe, no?.learning so much from you Yem. Thankyou
@@sarrieadin8001 She has a beautiful voice indeed, and has many influences for sure, so has flamenco ;-) The guitar sounds a bit different many times because Refree is not a flamenco guitarist so he gives a different twist and sound to the music, which is interesting!
Thanks so much for your channel! Started to learn flamenco from music books and you've answered so many questions I had.
Wow thanks a lot for the tip! I so glad it helped. Let me know if you have any other questions! 🙏😉😈
I met a flamenco guitarist who did the same thing. He took a bulerias falseta and played it as a tango.
Yes absolutely! 🙃 I show this here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZaugmNWplNOwZ5M.htmlsi=nIDBmu8lmAdiS7bu
@@FlamencoMAPS I checked it out. Great, thank you!
Hi, can you transcribe this sevillana: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nGSLttZ-pJXciJc.html and translate, expecially the second stanza? Thanks.
WOW. This one is exceptionally beautiful. Thank you for making this video.
Glad you liked it! Thank you 🙏😉
So beautiful!
It really is! Thanks to you too! 😌

¿Qué pájaro sería aquel Que canta en la verde oliva? Corre y dile que se calle Que su cante me lastima Tell me, which bird is singing there Hiding within the olive’s shade? Please hurry, make it cease its tune For me it’s a cruel serenade
❤ Fantastic source of information about the compás and rhythm. Your energy is contagious! ¡Gracias y olé! 🙏💃🎸🥁
Muchas gracias! ☺️🙏
Great work it still confusing me but create work 😂
Little by little! 💪🙃
Love you! ❤❤❤❤
Haha thanks Samanta! 😁😊🙃
That was a great wrap! I had always danced it in a 12 beats starting on 1, and switched to a school that starts...on 2! The 6 beats count is indeed interesting, once you know what you're doing! ;)
I didn’t know the one starting on 2! Anyways, at the end of the day, if it works it’s ok! Thanks for the comment! 🙏🙃
So insightful! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your comment! 🙃🙏
Excellent. Thank you :)))
Thank you too, for watching and for the comment!
Nobody on the internet explains the Compas better than you man
Ahah! Thank you so much! 😊🙏
As a music arranger, I score fandangos de huelva alternating between 2/4 and 4/4. The count is 5-6|1-2-3-4|5-6|1-2-3-4|| The 3rd beat in the last measure is emphasized. This construct fits all pure flamenco, until the Latino influence from South America corrupted the genre.
Thank you very much for this! It makes perfect sense with the usual progression and chord structure. However, it may be necessary to keep the cycle shorter sometimes (only 6 beats). I still don't know what is meant by "pure" flamenco. Flamenco has been a mixture since its origin. Influences from South America, Central America and the Caribbean, with Africa through slavery in the Spanish colonies, represent a very large part of the evolution of flamenco for a very long time. Today there is indeed a more "commercial" flamenco with a strong influence of salsa and other genres, but traditional flamenco is still very much alive and "uncorrupted." Many people continue to sing, dance and play por soleá, siguiriya and fandango in a very traditional way. Thanks for the comment and the conversation!
@@FlamencoMAPS You make a good point. As for pure flamenco, it retains the rhythmic structure. A waltz is a waltz but only if in 3/4. A bulería is only a buleria if 12, 3 and 6 are accented, even before Ramon Montoya: two bars in 3/4 and three bars in 2/4. To my ear, much of modern "flamenco" is salsa, a percolating cacophony of notes, wherein one palo is barely distinguishable from another. BTW, I have never seen flamenco music scored correctly: it seems people have forgotten that a bar line indicates an accent; otherwise there is no way to enter a time signature.
You are one of the most effective teachers I have ever known. Thanks a lot!
You're very welcome João! 🙃🙏
Is there a series where you just continously play to bulerias compas with the lego illustration running alongside your playing? I would love something to listen to as ear training... I keep getting lost in the compas when I listen to anything other than your playing in your videos 😭 ...like when I watch flamenco dance performances, I have no idea where they are in the count
I don’t have this but it’s a good idea! Thanks! 🙏 Keeping track of the compás with the dance can be very tricky. Maybe you can start with accompanying things like guitar solo albums where you can follows the palmas, with good sound quality and steady tempo.

Antiguamente eran dulces Todas las aguas del mar Se bañó una malagueña Y se volvieron saladas Once upon a time they were sweet All the waters in all the seas Then a Malagueña girl bathed That’s the day the seas turned salty
As usual, a very important message full of crucial information. The issue is that most people studying Flamenco have limited time since they have to dedicate most of their days to the other parts of their lives (family, study, work), and most have come to Flamenco later in life, and many don't speak Spanish. I feel that really mastering this art is a life long, constant, all-consuming effort. Also, students in Flamenco classes logically want to learn choreographies, since it is the fun part. So, I believe the teachers should concentrate in conveying the important information beyond just teaching steps. Your reminders in this video are crucial to progress both as a student and as a teacher. Thank you as always. Your work is very important for all of us lovers of this art.
Thank you very much Marisela! 🙏🙃 It's true that most people unfortunately cannot spend more time doing flamenco, and enjoying the choreographies seems to be the main access point, but it seems that frustration always awaits them at some point. That's why I wanted to make this video. In fact, if we don't have a lot of time to study and practice, that's even more of a reason to strategize. We can do a lot more than we think with consistency and organization, a little bit at a time. My purpose is to give hope and directions. I hope I’m not discouraging anyone! 😱 Abrazo!
@@FlamencoMAPS Oh no, you are not discouraging EVER, rather, you are placing the emphasis on very important things. I was just trying to also convey the reality of the limitations most people have in terms of time, language knowledge, and the need to feel like they are achieving something by learning a choreography. But all of your points are right on, and as I said, I believe they are very important particularly for teachers. As you know, I study daily the history, intricacies, and complications of this art form both as an academic, and as a dancer. And yet I discover daily that it is never enough, it is really a life long journey of very intentional and strategic dedicated study. But, as a teacher, I also know the difficulties my students face when trying to grasp all the basic information combined with their desire to enjoy performing choreographies. So, I try to convey in all of my classes the importance of the four points you make: Technique, Rhythm & Compás, Flamenco Language, and Familiarity with Cante. I even do that when performing in Tablaos, explaining to the public the main elements of the history, the cante, etc, as much as possible. But on the other hand, one has to be realistic about what to expect. It is a balancing act. But I think this video is crucial and a good reminder for all, particularly for teachers. I already sent it to all of my students and flamenco aficionados I know. Thank you as usual, keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot Marisela! For your work, for sharing your thoughts and the video! 🙃
it is the most comprehensive flamenco 12 beat explain video i ever seem😮,thank you for made this video so patient。
Thanks! 🙏 I thought it would be useful too! 😉
Im a beginner to Flamenco dance and i will be honest i wish i can be speedy enough in my footwork practice.
You will eventually get there if you practice effectively and consciously! 😎 this goes with understanding what you are doing with your footwork, which is the purpose of this video (and many others). Thanks for the comment!
