________________________________________________________________________________
Yo, yo, yo! James and Sarah here, back with another episode in our van build series. This week join us underneath the van week as we install our underslung LPG tank and pipework.
This is the first time we’ve ever worked with gas, so it was a little nerve wracking to say the least. But the guys at Autogas 2000, where we purchased our van conversion LPG system, were super helpful at talking us through all the installation steps in detail.
As you’ll see in the video, the hardest part was mounting the LPG tank at the correct angle. But through sheer determination we managed to do it & after the guys at the workshop had checked it out we were good to go!
Think we were actually in shock to be honest that we had actually managed to do it!
There’s a blog post over on our website with more detailed info about our DIY campervan gas install. Click here: thewholeworldornothing.com/ca...
Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this episode don’t forget to smash the thumbs up & hit subscribe if you haven’t already so never miss a new video.
And do let us know what you think of our handy work in the comments.
Catch you there!

Excellent job, you two. Really enjoy watching you, progress through your van build. I'm waiting patiently on getting finances sorted to start my own build, but I have other financial commitments at the moments, will have to wait another 2 years until my feet are clear financially. Keep up the great work I'm loving what you do. 😊

Thanks! Hopefully that answered some of your questions. There are alternative ways to install gas and plenty of people just use exchangeable gas bottles too, but we wanted to keep everything outside of the van as much as possible which is why we chose this method. Glad you enjoyed it 😊

One of the best self build gas installations on you tube, Having finished my van over two years ago it brought back painful memories of me on my own trying to manhandle the tank into its brackets in North Scotland on a freezing wet February day. I’m still traumatised, my advice to anyone is do this with a helping hand and do it when the weather is nice or in a shop. It’s a truly horrendous job, you have no space, the tank is unbelievably heavy and awkward to manoeuvre and those rubber straps are bleeding nightmare, literally blood sweat and tears. 👍

Thank you 😊 We were absolutely bricking it until we went to see the guys at Autogas 2000 and they laid it all out in a simple way to understand. The main difficulty we had was literally getting the gas tank into the brackets and that was mainly because of the lack of space. If we’d been able to lift it up that would have made it much easier. Good video but I’m puzzled why you had to turn the elbow round to connect the filler hose? Would the straight connector not fit straight on if it went through the large hole first? The elbow connection could then have gone onto the filler on the side of the van. I would have thought that by turning that fitting that amount without loosening it off was incorrect but please correct me if I’m wrong.

Just to clarify, with the sender I ground it to the chassis/or my negative bus bar with the black cable, then run the green cable to connect to the receiver? On the receiver side, I just treat it like any other 12v component & run the black cable to the negative on my blade fuse holder & the red to the positive? (Ideally it would be great if I could splice into another near by 12v cable instead, so I could save space in my fuse holder, would this be possible?

The leaks proved our inexperience but were nothing to do with competence. They were on olive valves which we’d been explicitly instructed not to over-tighten as it’s not possible to loosen them. DIY lpg installations are very common and all of the large lpg sellers offer kits specifically created for DIY installation. The company we bought ours from offers a service where they then check the installation once complete to ensure that it’s up to scratch and, most importantly, safely installed.
