    i'm thinking that the color you use for underpainting is going to change the vibes a lot. the left is a lot "cooler" than the right.

    Underpainting adds depth that I can’t describe really, even as a water color artist myself I find my paintings look 10x better with it

    It makes stuff greyer and more realistic. Meanwhile the other one is saturated and bright, it pops more.

    I think both look really good but give off totally different vibes. The underpainted side looks like a tree in a forest, while the side without looks like it has very bright sunlight on it kind of washing it out. Mainly i think it would come down to where the tree and light are in a larger setting to determine which works better

    There's a realistic subtlety to the underpainting one that is beautiful. However the comic, clean looking finish of the right one is also very interesting.

    I think underpainting can incorporate more “character” into the tree and the right side keeps a light hearted touch and feels more refreshing to look at. Both are great, I personally enjoy the light green side better!

    I really depends on what type of style you're looking for, if you're trying a more realistic u underpainting is best and I'm unsure how to describe the feeling with no underpainting, but as you can see it's still stunning!

    Both look good and could be used in landscape based on Distance of the objects. Gives it the needed atmosphere to look good and hit the values required. :D

    The no underpainting was much more cheery and bright. The leaves and the bark look so different. The underpainting look so natural and calming. Both gave vastly different vibe.

    I feel its more a tone thing. That being the tone you wish to portray based on the colors, or in youre case the undershading vs not undershading, with the right being slightly more rugged and down to earth and the left being cheerier and optimistic

    I think that under painting is used for many different reasons such as detail or to get a certain kind of ambience like if you need a darker tree to accommodate for a dark background in a painting. Very pretty though 😁

    I think the science behind this is mainly the saturation control. Like the one with the underpainting resulted in low saturation in the dark and very dark areas which is (depending on the lit material) more realistic, while the other one has high saturation almost everywhere evenly, which is would be realistic if the tree was made of a very translucent material like jelly

    I struggle with watercolors... Honestly after the bad baaaad school art lessons with watercolors, where the teachers themselves seem not to know how to use them properly, I found myself stranded and almost afraid to use watercolors.... I am so fascinated by this art form and it seems to be simple but effectful... There is just something magical about the watercolors ❤😅😅 your videos are giving me hope that maybe, just maybe I can pick up some watercolors myself 😮😊

    Underpainting definitely helps tie all the colors together to feel much more natural. The lack of underpainting gives it a lot more of a stylized feel.

    I feel like the underpainting gives like, a night-time lighting/rendering feel, while the non-underpainted is more daytime-like! Both look wonderful in their different scenery based on the time in my opinion

    when you underpaint, should you make the blue dry first? I tried to underpaint this painting but then i left the blue dry and then started to draw the leaves and stuff.

    I like both but I think it matters more the emotion behind the area or the goal, the left looks more realistic and sad, the right looks simplistic and happy

    i think the underpainted side fits a dark, gloomy forest while the one without has almost a glow to it, like it's just after sunrise- neither are bad, i appreciate how this video isnt phrased to put anyone down!

    Tbh they're both so pretty but like The left is sooo deep and like rich, like it does have a lot of super interesting almost purpley greyish green bits. But The right one is just such a fun and intriguing show of simplicity. Even if it took just as long to make, it feels like it conveys a lot too, not as much, but it also uses less, it feels a little sharper and clesner and almost POP-y, idk. So pretty, both of them tho

    The underpainted side reminds me of traditional paintings while the non underpainted side reminds me more of painted comic strips. Like the Calvin and Hobbes collection books

    I had no idea how underpainting worked until I saw this channel! When I was using watercolor for the first time a month ago, it was very hard getting the colors to layer and look more natural like I wanted too. Underpainting has definitely helped!

    i like both sides, it woukd depend on the style or vibe you want the painting to have. I tend to like to go more simplistic, so the non underpainting would probably be what id go for, but i do love how the underpainting turned out!

    The left side was I guess more "conventionally appealing" but I really like how simple and emotional the right side was. It was dreamy and childlike, even more so with less shading that you added in. Reminds me of how childhood memories have that emotional sheen to them, haze of youth idk etc lol I like it a lot better

    Underpainting is truly appreciated when you have an entire scene of different objects with different colors and lighting. It really ties everything in with the underpaitning color and sets the mood for the scene

    The tree looks more fuller and lush on the right side. I guess the right side gives off a light happy vibe while the left side give a more serious , realistic vibe. Both sides help to set the mood for the image.

    both are nice! my style is more simplistic and bright so i would go for the right side personally, i don't like when my art looks muddy
