A24 isn't saving the movie industry, they are just producing good movies. Their films don't bring in much money. Also like I said A24 is just producing the movies, AKA funding them. The credit for the films being good goes to the writers and directors and actors, not the studio.

  • @NotAnotherFilm

It’s true they're not 'single-handedly' saving the film industry, but they're facilitating some fucking great stories to be made and not all studios will take risks like that. Some credit has to go to them for that.

Of course the cast and crew of the films deserve massive credit but A24 are giving these filmmakers the opportunity to make these films where most other studios would say no. A24 cares about making good movies not just money

Don't listen to the naysayers. It's definitely not a movie for everyone, especially those who need clean, simple, straight forward plots. The movie is about a sort of aimless, isolation that is born out of our jaded pop culture. We all want to mean something, all the messages we are constantly bombarded with. Well, even if there was a grand meaning behind it all and you discovered it, would that make your life immediately better? Or would you be right back where you started? That's kind of what the film is about.

First time in my life after watching a movie, I was not able to make my mind on if I enjoyed watching the film or I didn't. One things for sure, I couldn't stop thinking about it after watching it. Such an odd ball of a movie with Noir pace and crazy revelations. Everywhere the character goes in search of answers, we are with him and trying to figure out like him that WTF is actually going on. The climax closure scene broke me

Spoiler allert! "Do you ever feel like you fucked up somewhere a long time ago?.... You're living the wrong life, like a bad version of the life you're supposed to have?" Those lines hit me hard so bad that I paused the movie and thought about my life for hours, I related to the main character, he was so obsessed with pop culture and those actors, musicians, celebrities that he forgot to live and have a real life for himself... When he embarks on the journey to solve the mystery and in the end it just didn't matter because it's all just bullshit, then real life hit him and he's homeless, I had a panic attack, I'm scared I would end up like him..... For people pop culture is a way of life, for those producers, movie directors, writers it's just money, like what the song writer said to him (In my opinion that was the most important scene in the movie)

Just watched the film on Amazon Prime this week, and I loved it! It reminds me of a picture book named Masquerade, which encouraged the readers to go treasure hunting by decoding all clues sprinkled throughout the book. The only difference is that the story takes place in one of the most commercialized cities in the world, and the richest guys find a solace by bringing themselves a closure - self-annihilation. Sam himself also wound up in an old lady's apartment totally broke after all the quests. As someone going through a middle age crisis trying to rediscover the meaning of life, I found the movie hitting too close to home.

I love to reference it in YT comment sections. 3. It is on tons of “underrated” lists, so you are not the only one in this “predicament.” Lol.

This is without a doubt my personal favorite movie from A24 studios, it's the kind of movies that make you love the seventh art even more and believe again that there is still hope in that industry with so many cheap remakes and commercial movies made without passion and without meaning Andrew Garfield is a real talented actor! I love A24 so much but too bad they haven't given much credit to such a masterpiece, a modern cult classic.

  • @epicmeade

Sean H, You're absolutely right. this film is basically director David Robert Mitchell allowing us into his subconscious. Which is really what any great filmmaker from Hitchcock to Spielberg is trying to do. The whole movie is a dream sequence from start to finish. and needs to be viewed as such. But once that's established, the film is a triumph of storytelling. In my opinion it sits right along Alphonso Cauron's Gravity, Hitchcock's Vertigo, and Spielberg's War Of The Worlds as a truly daring exploration of movies as filmed dreams. which is really what every great writer/director is doing anyway, since anything they create is, at the end of the day, a product of their unconscious in the first place.
