You made a great video! This is my concern since I'm purchasing a security door soon.... I've seen neighbors doors with all the gaps. This may involve work and appropriate tools, but damn, it looks pretty good! A fresh coat of paint and you'll have a great looking front door. Thank you for posting this!

My door had the gap also, instead of buying all that, I JUST GOT A PIECE OF WOOD and and pushed it up, until it CLOSED THE GAP, and just NAILED the BOARD AT THE BOTTOM, then painted it, got the wood from my back yard , it was that SIMPLE, I DIDN'T HAVE TO SPEND NO MONEY$$$$👍😎

Looks like you did a very nice job, never knew a security seal kit existed.

I love the video since we have the same problem with our newly installed Security Door by Lowe's. We have a 1" to 2 " gap in the bottom of the door. If you pay to have it installed be sure to check out every part of the installation, we cannot get any satisfaction from our local Lowe's. We have tried to contact the contractor but they don't return the call, Talked to about three different managers at our local Lowe's, no help. We have even contact CORPORATE, not much help there either. Just know that this panel is available and should be installed at the time of installation. Love this video. Might try to do it myself!!

THANK YOU! In Hawaii we have rodents and bugs galore. That stinkin' gap is how they manage to get into the house. I didn't know this existed and now my husband has something to check off the honey do list!

Every security door I see has small issues they should include that kit with the door

No because then they would raise the price by $50 over what is already an over-priced door & some of us dont need it anyways! but it would be nice to somehow let ppl know about this so they would have the option of purchasing this at the same time instead of searching around for a resolution to the problem like we are now lol 👍

Great video, thanks for sharing. Got a gap almost just like that after I put in a nice used aluminum screen door someone was chunking out so it was FREE and awesome. lol One time, i made a step from a house door into a garage that was jacked up at bottom around concrete. Just used two pieces of good hardwood, one horizontal and one underneath to support it vertically and it never had a problem again, super tight and sturdy, even stained it. I got very lucky. (didn't phuk it up). Maybe the vertical piece was a cheap 2x4 but top was hardwood. I don't even think I had to screw into concrete because it fit so good but you could if need be. That kit is pretty nice deal.

Thank you brother for sharing this! Saved me tons of headache! Don't feel bad about the wrong color. I ordered the WHOLE DANG DOOR, went to pick it up and strap it on my car, drove it home, unboxed it (and ripped up the packaging to stuff it in the dumpster) and THEN I put it up against the entry door to see I'd gotten a 30" door for my 36" entryway! The rest of the day was spent pulling the bits out of the trash and jigsaw puzzling it back together with tape! I then wrapped it all back up in shrink wrap so that it'd be returnable and sellable again. Hours later I came back to return it and explain "Uh....it didn't work out." Bought the right size and got that one home...took all day. Lost a whole day for something that would've taken a second to notice! It happens to all of us. You've saved me a lot of time with this vid! Thanks again.

Thanks for tip, I think we all have this same problem when we have to attach storm door to outside of house. All kinds of bugs get in those gaps! I’ll need to paint mine white too..there goes another $60 on Amazon for this -ugh

This was great, I installed a security door last weekend and need the gap filled to keep the cat IN! lol Was about to build a form and pore some concrete until I came across this vid, really good. Strangely Lowe's doesn't carry these kits but HD came through!

@@LottieSue The aluminum plate that comes with the kit kzread.info/dash/bejne/c4xq2sSFYcqagdI.html extends from your threshold to the bottom of the screen door thus closing the gap. No need for filler.

I have the exact door with the same problem! I can’t do all that though! It was interesting to watch!

Home Depot and Lowes used to have available an inset mount frame, but now they only sell the surface mount frames, so that the screen door is so far out it's way off the existing thresthold. I don't want to put holes in the threshold I have. Just offer at least one option that is inset mount.

extended sill. I have the same sill you used to have and I am trying to fit an Anderson Storm(non-security) door.

Oh hell yes. I was gonna replace my door with a recessed door which are at least triple the cost of a surface mount door. We have everything from scorpions to snakes where I live and I'm tired of stuffing a towel in the door. I think Home Depot saw your video and raised the price $10 though.

Chuck Valente ya we were told recessed or custom, I wasn’t having it, knocked down stucco and put 3x1 frame and bought a standard door, once I do the seal kit, will be good to go and saved atleast 1k by not doing a custom door

Nice job. It looks great. But I'd be worried about mice getting in through those tiny holes. I'm looking for something like this except mine is a non-security type with no lock. I've got 1/4" gaps all around so looks like I'm just gonna use weatherstripping. Unless someone has another recommendation.

The Home Depot in my area does not carry this seal kit. Did you order it off of the Home Depot page or do you know where else it is carried per chance? Thank you, great video.

A rat got in our house, I'm pretty sure by way of the gap under the security door. Thanks for the video - I need the door totally sealed somehow - no gaps.

Sorry to point out 2 mistakes. 1. They tell you in the instructions to put your threshold at the same level as your existing threshold height. 2. The door sweep is supposed to be on the inside of the door. That is why you have gaps at the ends. Not trying to bust your chops, just saying.

Thanks I wondered how to fix that gap. I get lizzards. Baby birds and all kinds of things wandering in due to that gap.

@@alborzino I decided to get some pool noodles at the dollar store and cut it to fit the width then sliced it length wise to slip over the bottom of rhe security door.

Why did you use a black seal kit with a white door? They make a white seal kit. Also, the door sweep is attached to the INSIDE of the door, NOT the outside - that's why you are seeing the gaps on either side from inside the house.

You should have added a hardwood bulkhead at the top of your door frame and mounted door in place so that there is no gap at the bottom

Yes he did. I still see him everyday, but can’t come inside anymore. I’m not a cat hater, I’m just allergic to them. I wish I would have taken video of my couch, it had lots of white hairs. I mostly wear black clothing for work, so that wasn’t good.

If it's not even your cat, that's not cool. I once had a cat that used to enter a neighbors house through their cat door every day just to terrorize them. He would casually hide in plain sight (like the mantel) then pounce on them with a loud screech. This cat feared nothing. We mived to the desert and he found a fox den and tormented the fox family that lived there. Coyotes? He outsmarted th too. A cat like that is hard ro keep home. I loved him though he lived to 17 years of age. Only stayed home after he lost his vision. but knowing how pesty cats can be, I would be pissed if he got inside my house too. Some strsys even pee inside your homes on your furniture.
