Uncovering Valparaiso's Hidden Treasures | Chile Travel Vlog
In this video we explore the city of Valparaiso in Chile! This city is known as the jewel of the Pacific and is also home to Chiles legislative Congress and the headquarters of the Chilean navy.
Valparaiso is the second biggest city in Chile and one of the reasons we came to visit was to see the famous bohemian, artistic streets with great views overlooking the port and the Pacific ocean.
We start off by going straight up one of the famous 16 tiny funiculars in the city which is an experience in itself! Matt at the top by a completely different place to the streets below, this area is full of color, street art and views across the city.
We wander around and meet some friendly locals and find the best place for lunch with a view, if you’re visiting Valparaiso we highly recommend lunch at Cafe Turri it was such a great way to soak in the area and relax.
After lunch we explore more of the bohemian area and find ourselves following a trail of ants to a very unexpected but delightful location!
We finish the day down in Plaza Sotomayer after taking another of the 16 funiculars down. This square feels worlds away from the bohemian streets above that we’d spent the day exploring, Plaza Sotomayer is much busier and to be honest definitely didn’t feel as safe so you might notice we didn’t do too much filming once we got down there.
Valparaiso is so unique and is the kind of place you have to see to believe, we hope this video gives you a good taste of it!

Hello!!! Thanks for visiting the city where I was born. Valparaiso is a small and less modern version of Lisbon, Portugal, the architecture and alleys are very similar. Valparaiso would be an extraordinary city if the government invested money on it to eliminate graffitis, take out stray dogs...to start with.

That is a comparison we hadn’t thought of, Lisbon! Can definitely see it in the small streets. It is such a unique and intriguing little place and so full of charm, we loved wandering around all day!

There is so much to see everywhere here! I caught some stairs that looked like a piano...so cool! That cat in the window was so sweet 😺❤ Your lunch spot was amazing...both the soup and salad looked delicious! So it appears the fish and ants on the ground ar effective 😆

Wow, loved your lunch spot! I wish we found such a nice restaurant while we were there. We loved the colorful streets here and we had a Nashville friend who moved here so it was so nice to see Valparaiso with a friend. It really adds a new dimension to things.

Aww what a friendly kitty you met!! I love making friends with cats on my travels. Your restaurant view was perfection! And that food looked delicious too. That's so nice of the man to buy you wine! So much colour, history, and culture in this city. The architecture and atmosphere is so different throughout the city.

Thanks for showing us Valparaiso 🤗 I did one stop there when working on the cruise ship, but only had a time to go to the main square/plaza, walk around a bit and back to the boat. Now I wish I had more time to explore…I love the character, colours, food and buildings 🤗

Hello! I live in Valparaíso and about security, don't worry too much about Cerro Alegre or Cerro Concepción(places on the video), because they are the most touristic and safest places in the city. The bad reputation of the city is due to the fact that there are other higher places on the hills. I recommend visiting the two Cerros, and going to Viña del Mar and Concon, much safer and quieter than Valparaiso. Saludos and I hope you come!

We didn’t feel unsafe at any point during our stay but we did also read online a few scary things so we were cautious but during our travels there we can only say it felt lovely and safe.

That's tricky as it depends on timing and how tired you get with bus travel, you could see the main sights of Santiago in a day and then do a day trip to Valparasio it would be quite a lot but could be done. We personally preferred Valparaiso but that's because we're not really big city lovers. Enjoy your trip which ever you decide!

We just spent two days in Valparaiso which was a complete waste of time. Spent our time touring around downtown and the condition of the area is nothing short of a pig sty. The old building have the potential to be beautiful but the graffiti ruins everything. Whomever is in charge of stopping this vandalism should ashamed of the job they are doing. And calling this art, what a joke.

We started following you and watching your Chilean videos to prepare for our upcoming trip. Thanks! However, we are a bit disappointed that you haven’t ventured to try Chilean cuisine. Onion soup and chicken salad do not really represent what Chile has to offer in terms of food. Please try to embrace the country’s culinary culture a bit more and share it in your videos.

We try but it’s not easy as a vegetarian to find food on the go while filming, planning days out etc. we often grab whatever we can in a place that offers something to match our dietary requirements.

Please if you’re in a group where scammers are pretending to be us be assured we have not contacted anyone and never would do to like or watch our videos. It does not benefit our channel in any way. We are getting a lot of nasty messages from people accusing us of doing something that we have no idea about. The only way we know anything is happening is because of all the comments on this video 🙁

Existe una conocida estafa de WhatsApp y Telegram que comparte vídeos en KZread de forma aleatoria y de alguna manera solicita dinero. Hay un vídeo en línea sobre esa estafa, pero no tiene nada que ver con nosotros, los creadores. Somos víctimas de la estafa ya que nuestro canal se daña por esto, por favor, si estás en algún grupo con estas personas, diles a todos que es mentira y que no tiene nada que ver con Tide Knot Travellers. Esto ha estado sucediendo desde hace algunas semanas y se informó a KZread, pero no pueden hacer nada porque está sucediendo fuera de KZread.

@@rsea8751 it is a well known internet scam. Google it. It’s everywhere. It’s the usual, asks you for money etc. nothing to do with any of the creators. They pick videos at random. No idea why this particular video of ours got picked but it’s very annoying for us constantly getting spammed with fake comments etc.

Esa estafa no tiene nada que ver con nosotros, hemos fijado un comentario aquí en la parte superior explicando que alguien está usando este video para estafar a la gente. No podemos hacer nada más que comprender lo frustrante que es esto para nosotros. Busque también en internet, es una estafa muy conocida y documentada. Nada que ver con nosotros, los creadores que trabajamos duro.

Por favor, si vienes de algún grupo fraudulento de WhatsApp o Telegram dudoso, no participes en su estafa. Estás siendo estafado. Esas estafas no tienen nada que ver con Tide Knot Travellers.
