If you look closely, that is the beaver den the sticks are used to build the den and to store a supply of sticks with bark on them to eat. The entrance to the den is usually underwater which is why the beavers build the damn in order to protect the entrance to the den. Beavers are very territorial and mark their territory with scent piles. Walk around the water's edge and see if you can spot where the beaver comes in and out of the water, once you find that location look for a small pile of leaves, twigs, and dirt that is piled up near the slide into the water pinch a small amount of it off the top of the pile and smell it, if it smells musty that is the beavers calling card. It marks his turf for other beavers to pay heed that the area is taken.

It was after watching several large dam removals around the world; then you came up in my Suggestions. I especially love how you are informative and explain your knowledge about how you're only changing what local area your in at the time could be doing better to displace the flow of water. Without changing what was intended for the area. I appreciate you.
