    Ugh..I too thought this was a worn seal issue on my 2016 Patriot. Water was leaking everywhere, front and back lights. So I sealed my moon roof with gray duct tape as a quick fix - which has now deteriorated and left behind a bunch of lovely goo. Massive rain last night, and I drove off to work this morning with water again pouring out of my map lights. Think I'll have a bit of work ahead of me to get cleaned up, but I've got a couple of dry days ahead. 😎 Thanks for the video!

    About to try this now on my gf's Jeep GC. I did not even know there was a drainage duct that could get clogged; was just assuming it was leaking from worn out weather stripping. Hoping this will be the problem though as it seems to be an easy and economical way of rectifying the situation. Thanks for the informative video!

    @@DougBrownVancouver They both were clogged! Once I cleared them problem solved! We had huge amounts of rain last night here in S. Carolina and not a drop had leaked inside this morning when I checked. Thank you very much for the video and information! I truly appreciate it and I'm sure many others do as well.

    Hey what year was your gf's GC? I have a 2020 and suddenly out of no where I've got this dripping from the overhead microphone. I'm about to try this. Its not even covered by warranty which is crazy.

    Thank you for this video ill be trying this tomorrow as i live in FL and its rainy season. I drove for 3 hours and it was raining the whole time maybe 5 minutes from home the water started to come from under the sunglass case like yours. I pulled over to open the roof and i had water on the driver side of the roof took a rag cleaned the top part of it now tomorrow ill be going to get a cable and run it through the drain hole and hopefully that takes care of it again Thank you for the video ill let you know how i make out

    Water coming in is always a hassle because you typically don't see it until it rains and you're driving!

    Hoping mine is as easy to fix as this appeared to be! Like others have said, I assumed it was the seal, as it looks a little weathered. My wheels were already turning on what a job that was going to be! Praying I can avoid that! Thank you so much for the informative video! Here goes nothing! Wish me luck! 🤞

    @krisdobson5243 it's a 2004, but I would say, based on your description of what happened, that it's probably the same issue. The holes are a bit hidden if you're not high enough to get a good look so keep that in mind. Anyway, yea it immediately fixed the problem for me so hopefully it'll do the same for you. Just run a piece of wire that's flexible enough to bend some, yet rigid enough to not just fold back over itself and that should work fine. You could also use a small drain snake as long as it'll fit. If you don't have either of those, I would imagine compressed air would work well but might be a bit messy. Good luck.

    I'm wondering if some bursts of air from an air hose would also work. 🤔

    Wow I’m gonna try this, thanks. Mine’s leaking at the back center unlike yours. I have the panoramic moonroof so it’s leaking basically from the overhead light back there onto my back seats. I’d assumed the seal went bad but maybe that’s not it…

    Finally got a warm enough day to check this out. Poured water into the rails. Turns out my car has 4 ducts total - 2 in front and 2 in back. But it’s one of the back ones that appears to be partially clogged. Sadly this means I can’t even see the opening as it’s under the fixed panoramic glass towards the rear of the car so I may need to find a mechanic who knows how to access this

    Hi Doug, Thanks so much for posting your video. I really appreciate it. I did your fix and tested it, and water flowed out of the drain. After driving, more water (from the test) came through the sunglass holder. Do you have any suggestions?

  • @DougBrownVancouver

    @DougBrownVancouver

    I wonder if there was just water pooled up above the sunglass holder. I think that's the likely cause. Also, did you clear both the driver and passenger ducts?

    None but I jumped on this quickly. I couldn't see if the hose could possibly exit into the floor but it seemed like no. Maybe the water leaked from sunroof to floor?

    I tried this & indeed gunk came up with the wire. But for some reason on the passenger side water is sitting in the lil corner where the sunroof slides close. So the water is damping the sunroof cover & it seems is traveling and seeing to create leak

    Exact thing happened to mine on a 2020. What I noticed is, the water drains fine for a few hours, but it hits a point where the 1/2" drain tubes become too overwhelmed and water is coming in no matter what. Such a dumb design.
