For something close like the gunk at the top of the drain, I unfold a metal paper clip and leave a little hook at the end. I didn't know to unscrew the cap though, makes life much easier!

Respect to plumbers!

You can also push the cap up and down to use it as a plunger 👍

Also can use needle nose pliers or they make a special barbed tool for this.

They sell those long plastic things with barbs at the dollar tree here in the USA for $1.25 and they’ve always helped for me. Mostly its hair covered with gunk and this thing will pull that all out. Super cheap and very effective. I still need to gag a little though 😁

Does draino actually dissolve built up hair? I don’t tend to have issues with my vanity but I lose a lot of hair in the shower so whenever it runs slow I draino it. It definitely helps, but I’m not certain if it fully clears it. Wish you were near me Bill. I’m having a leaky roof issue and would hire you to sort it out in a snap!
