I read one negative review where a Western tourist lady who was 15-20 minutes late for a reservation; she was mad that her reservation wasn't honored. One busy nights, that place is booked solid with a line out the door. They can't let a table sit vacant for 15-20+ minutes hoping that the people with the reservation will eventually show up. And, from a cultural perspective, being on time to things is expected in Japan. It's seen as being kind of insulting to other people if you're late to an appointment. Like, don't cut things close. Plan to be there 15 min early rather than right "on time."

Gotta give credit to Nigel for putting in the work to make the "Uncle Roger" character more of a character. It's like each sub milestone triggers a development mini-arc. What started as a mock of a stereotype has certainly evolved quite a bit... Also, Motokichi sensei might come across as a wee bit off kilter, but he's a literal master of his craft and makes cooing and plating omurice look way, _way_ easier than it actually is.

Yeah. Especially restaurants like kichi kichi where they are fully booked and work on a specific schedule. Went there last month. Every batch of customers enter the restaurant at the same time (4/5 batches per dinner). Every batch receives the same experience and performance. Being late means missing the performance and affect next batch’s times. That’s why they are so serious about the reservations and even tell customers to be there 20 minutes early. Unfortunately some people think that just because they got reservations they are entitled to arrive late and do whatever they want. Glad restaurants don’t allow that type of behavior.
I love that even Uncle Roger can't be anything but positive around Chef Motokichi. Such a legend. So glad he's teaching others how to make his happy omurice.
I see more nigel here than uncle roger. Uncle roger would've given up immediately😂. That dedication to make a perfect flying omurice, the face you make when you're hardworking, made you came this far. Happy 9 million subscribers!

15 minutes with this chef could charge my batteries for 10 years. What a wholesome dude
Holy crap. Motokichi san/senpai is such a bundle of energy and lively that Uncle Roger didn't have time to be cynical. The man genuinely has a zest for life - its amazing! Hell, the stress by the end was so bad that even the face-smoothing-filters on Roger's face were like "Bro, even I need to go home now".
The fact that uncle roger fail to make the chef angry in many diffrent ways is crazy
一般人在面對忙碌及壓力下很難保持笑容, kichikichi老闆能保持的高能量及笑容去面對廚房每天的高壓力工作, 這種情緒管理是真的了不起! 加上對客人的應對進退能力,令人折服。
"With smile money comes naturally" that applies to uncle roger also his success is cuz he made so many ppl smile especially me in times of lockdown also when my grandma had passed away it defenitely made me feel better back then thank you uncle roger.

Chef Motokichi is soooo positive... It's exactly like those positive vibe sensei in anime... Side note: Some countries' tourist are considered low marks to Japanese restaurants because they're always late and cancel without notice. Tourist from these countries normally hard to get reservation in Japan. All because the mentality, "I haven't pay ma... It's ok" Sad to say Malaysia is one of them.

The thing about Mr. Motokichi's restaurant that may surprised people is that it's pretty small, so the reservation is really necessary. And if you have a reservation in Japan, arriving on-time is mandatory.
Awwwman! 13:00 the sad music and sparkles are so screaming a missed opportunity to make something with your own anime twist of someone working hard in the kitchen! I so saw this turning into an anime scene since you were in Japan at this kitchen too! I know you had a bad experience with One Piece, but that was a huge fish to go against. If it's stuff with your original touch, nobody can really fuss about copyright and you could keep this work up for all to enjoy. (plus, I still have a copy locally of that One Piece you did! 😜) But Omg, it's very apparent the work that was put into this! Great job Uncle Nigel!! 😁 And congrats on getting the final attempt!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
