Unboxing Wyoming: What It's Like Living in Wyoming

Does everyone in Wyoming chew tobacco?
Did everyone in Wyoming vote for Trump?
And could a Wyoming woman beat you up?
We’ll answer those questions and more. So pour yerself a glass of whiskey and get ready to rope some steer. We’re gonna darn tootin unbox the great state of Wyoming!
Well would you look at that. They’re extracting coal. Coal is a big deal in Wyoming. There’s a 1 out of 3 chance the energy used to power your home was mined in Wyoming. There’s also a 10% chance the natural gas you use was tapped here too. Wyoming is full of energy riches, and energy is what has defined this state for decades. Lots of people here in Wyoming rely on the energy sector for their jobs and way of life.
But Wyoming isn’t all coal and uranium miners or gas extractors. In fact, as we’ll see later, Wyoming is in trouble, financially, and its gonna need to diversify itself if it wants to prosper.
If we really want to get a feel for what Wyoming is like, we gotta get out of these coal fields and check out other areas of the state, too. That way, if you’re thinking of moving here, you’ll know where to go.
This is Wyoming.

@@jjberg83 Well all the cities you just mentioned have strict anti gun laws and bad self defense laws. Most criminals in those places do assume and hope you dont have a gun. If it was as ubiquitous to have a gun in those places as it is in Wyoming and self defense laws made sense (stand your ground) then crime would be lower most likely.

I’ve lived in Wyoming my whole life, and yes, I can attest that we don’t really like it when people come and try to change things, just come and enjoy what we have, because while it might not be much, the ability to easily find a place to be alone is incredibly under appreciated until you find yourself sitting in a 10 foot tire watching the sun go down.

As a resident Native American from the eastern Shoshone tribe, Yes there is a drug issue and poverty but not all of us are like that and not all of the rez is like that. It would of been nice for him to mention the beadwork and art made by the locals sold at the store as well as the museum that hold stories and history of my culture. The pow wow is a big deal as well and many of us hold on to our old sacred ways and practice them today where we do sweat lodges and Sundance. The community also holds gatherings for people to learn how to make Gotzup (chokecherry gravy), There is also a Program where we can go to learn CrossFit. I was kind of annoyed that you under looked the reservation by just mentioning drugs and poverty and casinos.

he was talking about the general area. The truth is the truth. Drugs, gambling, and poverty envelope casinos. Because those habits coincide and are part of human nature, The same can be said for florida or Nevada. He didn't say the indigenous residents are responsible or that they have nothing to offer. People thinking of moving need to know the harsh truth. People visiting for tourism can look at sliver linings. i think he was fair in the way each area or district was represented. Miami has alot to offer but i would be lying if drugs and crime weren't prevalent.

As a matter of fact, there were more people in the hotel I was staying at than what I saw in the actual city. Unfortunately all museums were closed since it was Memorial weekend, but damn sure I loved the quietness. Next day I had to regret leaving when I found myself stuck in traffic in my big snobby city.

My family is thinking of trying to find a place somewhere up there. We live in oklahoma atm. Our justice system here in oklahoma is getting worst every day. Liberals are taking over day by day coming from Tulsa. We want peace. Somewhere quiet but near a good-sized town so the ladies will have shopping and such. How hard and how much would it be to just purchase around 10 or so acres with a house or building one? The economy in oklahoma is VERY low and there are not many good jobs at all. God we just want to live quietly, away from the government's BS, away from drugs, gang violence, thieves, and scum bags.

It’s incredible I moved here from NJ. I believe living here has made me a better person and has shaped me as a person a lot. When there is certain environmental challenges and not everything is convenient it makes life a little more interesting and rewarding. Also when people say there’s no jobs or nothing to do they’re full of crap. I have a lot more opportunities here to do what I enjoy and I have more of a future here as young person than I would in a state like NJ where the average cost of living is exponentially higher. I also enjoy more freedom here than I would in any other place I’ve lived I totally understand the wariness of out of staters but people here are generally kind and quick to “let you in” and be supportive if you show interest in actually living the lifestyle.

I'm also a Wyomingite, in Cheyenne! I cant disagree with most of what's said, I can add that with the gas and coal not doing so well the politicians have a bill and are looking into legalizing perhaps, but as you said it's really Republican here, but it's amazing they would consider it. The people here are typically nice and helpful. And you're dang right about that wind, it can get up to hurricane force 60+ mph, it never goes away but just decreases in the summer lmfao And you forgot to mention our hot springs, Thermopolis! P.s I worked at the landfill out of town, they had professional golf course netting to keep the trash where it belongs, the wind destroyed it in a few months, it was supposed to last years

The last time I drove through southern WY it was literally 45 minutes at 65 MPH before I saw another vehicle. Heaven help you if you break down out there! Being of a slightly liberal lean, I've learned to only discuss surface stuff in public places.
