Absolutely amazing board, I really like the sharp contrast between the light and dark squares, and the wood grain on the margins of the board can't be beat!

Only because World Chess doesn't sell the Pro Staunton set, the prize cannot be substituted for a combo set. However if you win the giveaway and would like to upgrade the prize to a more expensive World Chess set, you will only be asked to pay the difference between the sale prices of the two sets. Hopefully this answers your question!

Staunton chess pieces are, honnestly, the best chess chess pieces ever... This chess set reminds us the work and the experience of artisans behind these pieces, a beautiful chess set that is, for me, one of the best of the staunton house.

I agree that the Staunton style is a very great and classic set, yet I personally still prefer this modern World Chess Championship style. It was based on Staunton but has taken some turns away from the standard Stauton style in different areas. I guess at the end of the day it is all up to personal preference and need!

Entered for the draw, thanks for the opportunity. The bishops remind me of the Dubrovnik pattern more than anything else.

Agreed, the knights in this set are my #1 favorite design out of every version I've seen or used. Clean and modern with no crazy eyes or grin, I think it looks very nice. I also like the king in this set over the kings of other sets as it looks very regal!

1972 Reykjavik is the best World Chess Championship set ever made. 2nd is the Chavet during the 1990's. The 2013 set is an ugly monstrosity of a chess set design. They both know how to play chess but they both don't know how to design a good looking chess set.

The style of chess pieces is where it comes down largely to personal preference. The 1972 and 1990 sets are extremely handsome sets in their own ways, and are fantastic pieces of chess history. The 2013 set is a much more modern and clean take on the chessmen, a style that I personally find the best-looking out of the many I've had the privilege of unboxing and sampling.
