UNBOXING! Terry Hearn's NEW Rods and Net | + Rucksack and Unhooking Mat

Спорт

When ESP launched the original MK1 Terry Hearn Carp Rod way back in 2001, the carp world was sent into a frenzy. A rod, designed to Tel’s spec, with a full duplon handle-it had ‘record sales’ written all over it-and they did. 21 years later and we've got some new additions to the MK3 line up of rods. In this carp fishing video, Thom Airs compares them to the MK2, along with taking a closer look at the new matching landing net, a new rucksack and unhooking mat.

Personally I think he deliberately planned to say one or two not so good comments about the review items. So, it make its look like a review instead of a typical promo

I’ve got a Drennan specialist unhooking mat which is the same principle but in plain green. I don’t really fish for big fish but I have found it brilliant, great for returning fish.

Ive had the mat since it first came out and fish to just under 36lb in the large version and its been fine. Sides arent the most sturdy but its not different to any of the flat mats out there

Unfortunately the mat is a bit of a fail, great idea but the sides are to flimsy and a fish can flip and roll over them, it’s also a bit thin. Needs some work!

The mat design is a trade off between portability and protection, with portability looking like it's been prioritised. This was probably a marketing decision based on there already being lots of high 'loft' mats on the market and not many ultra portable ones

@CastAirLead I’m not sure how many mats you’ve seen with hard sides but I know I definitely haven’t! There are many many many walled mats on the market made of 50mm thick foam that protect fish, definitely don’t harm fish! 😂😂😂😂

@CastAirLead you would not catch me even attempting to stick a 40lb fish on that. Get what they have tried to do with it but sorry it’s way too thin for me.

Lots of negativity around the mat. I like it. I’ve seen a couple of flip out and damage their tails whacking them on these scaffold type cradles.

Stop beating yourself up, we all appreciate an honest review, enjoyed it and well done. When's the 'ology competition being done, you, vs Luke vs Joe 👌 Don't think the mat is up to today's carp care requirements sadly? Think esp need to bring out a foam infill mat/cushion for it, just saying 😉

How hard would it of been to push/screw a bivvy peg in the ground ( at an angle ) and loop the lead round it a few times? Then lean into it and the all important action of the rod could have been demonstrated - to show the different tapers, the playing action, Flatspots etc, and where the blank locks up. All rod reviews should show this - but none do.... And what about the lightness of the blank? no mention again. I was able to test the Mk 1's on the bank many years ago and they had a very nice action but were spoiled by being very heavy & unbalanced imo.

I've got one. It's definitely a stalking mat, and you wouldn't use it on compacted/ hard ground, but on the river / canal bank, on soft ground, it's bang on. Surprisingly big too.

Don’t get all the negatives about the Mat, the handling of carp is all getting a bit silly. You’ve just applied an average force of probably near 5lb to the fishes mouth, dragged it through weeds, bounced off rocks on sloping banks, held captive around snags until it comes out or you force it out, hold it all night because you want a daylight picture. So after all this only a 200mm soft touch mat is good enough, what a joke. Also don’t forget that most of these 30 / 40 lb fish being caught today were hauled out at small doubles 20 + years ago and flopped straight on a grassy bank in the net. Let’s get a bit more sensible.

In the future, when noddies and novices meet and reproduce, their offspring will be known as noddices. They will become increasingly prevalent over the next decade or so, and will especially common in their favourite habitats, such as heavily stocked club and day ticket venues.
