So excited to share this video with you and the entire series! Absolutely epic to play around with some DCFC stuff. Can’t promise videos will come quickly, but I’ll be filming everything possible with this process ⚡️

That's straight up baller getting a DC Fast Charger! I love my Autel MaxiCharger. It was one of the best upgrades to my garage over the portable unit I was using for a few years. It would be cool to set up the DCFC for public use by payment and see how much you make vs electrical costs over a month or two. Put a video camera on the parking spot for the charger.

Credit to Autel for taking a leap on providing a long term loan review unit to Out of Spec with no strings attached. Not a lot of companies would take that chance.
Kyle gets super excited all the time but this beats anything seen before 😂

@@kingzorb yes “next level Kyle excitement” is exactly right 😂 I admit I got excited too. I had to do something else but when this video showed up I absolutely had to watch it immediately.
I would suggest putting in a 600a frame sized breaker that is adjustable (an ETU) so you can change the trip settings in the future when you get a new charger that has a different trip requirement. You can oversize the conduit and conductors too, so you won’t have to swap out those. Also, I’d recommend “skid mounting” the charger so it’s easier to swap out when you get a different one down the line.
This is the kind of Content the EV business needs. It will greatly help both consumers and potential buyers to understand what’s involved in obtaining provisioning, and operating a ChargePoint. I can’t wait to see what happens.

It should also dispel some of that FUD that fast chargers are needed everywhere like gas/ petrol stations. I don't have a petrol station in my home / garage or driveway. Nor need a fast charger for anything other than long trips.

Thanks for sharing. There is a lot of curiosity around these and it is really admirable of Autel to open up their process. They get huge props and I'll be supporting their charging systems in the future because of this.
I haven't seen Kyle this excited since the Twizzy. I'm looking forward to the installation and the testing.

That would really help with Kyle's demand charges. Run properly it could reduce them to zero, by keeping overall building demand plus EV charging less that the max the building alone would take. Paying the demand charge would be less expensive than a megapack, but a free megapack would be awesome!
So who else was desperate to see/hear Kyle clunk that big switch...

Oh GAWD YES!!!
I love that you get so excited over this stuff. You're living your dream and that's so cool to see.
Kyle has amassed a lot of knowledge about DC charging. Both technical and HMI. Having the actual hardware is a great opportunity. I'm anxious to learn how this thing turns 3 phase AC into DC. I'm impressed that something so powerful is in a single cabinet and air cooled.
As the bloodsucking lawyer in Jurassic Park says - 'Is it heavy? Then it's expensive'
Huge congratulations to you all Kyle! I can’t think of a better media outlet than out of spec for this. You are going to do some amazing content with this!!
Really cool! This is going to be a great learning experience for out of spec and your viewers, so pumped to be a part of it!
That's awesome Kyle! We're super excited too for all your reviews!
Thanks Kyle. This is absolutely the biggest unboxing I have ever seen! Have fun with this. Lots of love to all.❤❤❤
So cool! Can't wait to see the backend and all the juicy details!
this is awesome!! love your enthusiasm! really interested to see how the power agreements work with this scale of energy
So cool. Really looking forward to the progress on this project. Keep up the great work!
I'm so excited to see this process. It's going to be such an education for all of us CCS drivers as to what the difficulties are with maintaining the charging infrastructure for charge point manufacturing. Congratulations, OoS, for all the work the team has done through the years. You've truly earned all of your success and I look forward to witnessing the future!
We bought around a dozen DCFCs from a competing brand for a school system and they ran $24k per unit. Level 2 dual stalls were around $16K each. Extra cost to consider is in conduit runs from the closest transformer, electrical service panel upgrades, concrete pad, stanchion, installation. internet connectivity, setup and ongoing monthly fees for the payment processing and management software. Biggest question we have now is how to setup the charger visibility so that they are not publicly available during school hours.

You're correct. I'm guessing at least $50-$100k all in for design, engineering , permitting and construction costs.

Haha would be great. But we want them to make money and not to go bankrupt…..the charging industry is a giant money loosing business.
Very cool Kyle, great content keeping us interested and excited! Thanks Alisa, great filming 😁
Hi Kyle, just a suggestion about the placement: please, think about the charger as a sculpture, a showpiece, an educational object, not as a 'charger'. When you look for a place you want to walk around it, you want to open all doors and show it to interested students, drivers etc. It will need pavement around it (not soil and bushes around the slab). So, don't squeeze it in a corner. The video is great as usual, thank you for the great job you do for us.
Can't wait to come up to FC to see this in person. So awesome and so Kyle!
The tilt indicator is working pretty simple I guess. If the box was tilted a certain degree, the little steelball will come out of its pocket and land in another one, indicating the degree of the maximum tilt, that the box was "suffering" during the shipping. Never seen one before, but it should work like that.
This video will be very useful when i order mine. Thanks Kyle!
Okay but this is literally the most Kyle thing ever. How I did not see this coming I am not sure😂 So awesome.
This will be a very interesting video series. It is great to see Kyle's enthusiasm, as always.
It was only a matter of time! Very excited for the content to come.
holy smokes Kyle, your excitement is intoxicating, love your knowledge on this subject, love the ev's tested, sweet
So looking forward to this series, way to go!
This is so exciting Going where no other You-tuber has gone Keep the videos coming
Excited to see this saga unfold. Man I love KZread.
Very cool! Looking forward to the series, and hopefully with more brands loaning chargers!
Exciting times. Congratulations on the terrific score. Looking forward to the future videos.
Too Cool!! Looking forward to seeing all the videos on this!!
This is so freakin cool. Thanks for covering this super important part of the EV world in such detail guys.
I am excited too! I will be watching in detail!
Congrats. Looking forward to this series.
The geek in me is GEEKING OUT!! You are a crazy awesome guy!!! Get it set up and I’ll come charge!
The emergency stop is supposed to always be user accessible in case of emergency even by a user or a professional. A basic example would be if a firefighter needs to do something on a car that is still connected to the charger, they need to be able to shut it down for good.
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR!! ! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Kyle you are pioneering the details of EV that nobody else is doing. It seems nerdy now but you are educating a horde or future EV nerds that will annoy their friends with all their EV knowledge and ultimately create tons of knowledgeable champions for this technology. Who knows where EV is going to be in 10 years but the more people that actually understand it the better it will be.
Utility friends are best friends of a EV owner. That is just awesome.
Great idea! Very interested in future content on DC charger operations.
Kyle is so excited he was out of breath the whole time! Proud of you brother! It's gonna be epic to watch it go in :)
Thoughts on the project: Get a mega-pack or equivalent donated/made (possibly a school project), maybe get the university to redirect (A/B switch) solar and wind to the battery pack, and put that inline with the charger to defer the day-time cost of charging students/faculty/staff charging. A school/OutOfSpec study on small install DC fast chargers with supplemental "green" energy can be a school project and feasibility study done to see what "mom and pop" small companies might expect. :) looking forward to the progress...
This video earned my subscription. Gratz on the Autel...
I'm hoping to learn so much from these videos. Please get this installed ASAP! I know that won't be the case. But I can't wait.
Congratulations…..looking forward to seeing it in use.
I work for the number 1 provider of fuel station equipment in the US. We acquired a dc fast charger company but I never even considered “review” units. You’ve sparked my interest in finding out more about it.
This is so exciting!!! 🎉
I need 3 for the house lol. That’s awesome Kyle! We are just as pumped about this as you are!
F...n awesome!!!! You guys are unbelievable!
Wow this is really cool! Thanks Autel for loaning this. I had no idea we had a old powerplant on a CSU campus. It's nor far from me either. :)
alright so I'm excited to see this. The 'mystery' behind these chargers is too damn high. can't wait to see what you encounter
"The right tool for the job" such an important saying. You rock bro, i dont car what tool you use to open it with.
This is pretty neat not to mention the building you are in. Glad you did not leave.
22:49 Why on earth does this cost $100k? Kyle opens door.... OHHHHHH MG!!
Holy crap!!! This is awesome!!!!
How awesome is this!! Can't wait for the next video's.Would love to know all about it!
Now you have me looking into gettin 3 phase 480v to my house/shop. This is awesome!!!
Wow I didn't realize you guys were at the Power House. I just stayed with friends in North Old Town and walked right by... should've stopped by to say hi. Congrats on the DC fast charger! Looking forward to lots of videos with this thing.
I love Alyssa's inability to control herself and *not* peel the film! :)
As someone who was responsible for EV infrastructure at a Big 10 University, I’ll be super impressed if they can get it up and running in three weeks. It took me nearly a year to get two level two chargers installed. Btw, nice job on acquiring the charger and good luck. I’m looking forward to the future content on this project.
Very cool I cant wait to see the next video! 400 amps for one charger!
Hell yeah, brother!
20:04 What a big box, Aral Pulse has also started to deploy VW integrated LFP based DC chargers in my area that only require little power (battery boosts the charge). 👍
Really cool project, I will subscribe for future updates!
I think Freewire should benext as you don't need alot of power
If you're going to pour / run conduit, looks like you can at least fit two units in there so site prep for more than one might be worthwhile. Test the next thing on spot 2 and gives you flexibility to clear out spot 1 (Autel) for a new one or whatever in the future.
The tilt watch shows how far it has been tilted during transit, the ball sits at the steepest tilt angle in the direction the ball traveled.
@TechnicalLee
7 ай бұрын
Yup, somebody tilted it pretty far to the right.
As far as I can tell, this is a first for EV info channels. Congratulations! So many questions. Will you be working with CSU facilities management to get it mounted? Do you have to submit a site / architectural plan and will you make that available for us to see? I'm looking forward to seeing this whole process from planning, through installation, to registering it with PlugShare, ChargeHub, Apple / Google maps, etc. Please make it a playlist.
That's pretty cool. It is good that you'll get to see the business end of the credit card reader so you'll know more about what a joy or disaster it is. One thing to consider is explaining through diagrams the exact path that the three-phase takes as it goes through the charger and into a car. All the switching, all the voltages and currents. That would be educational.
This is the most exciting OOS project yet!
Super Awesome video. Thank You
Have you considered getting a Tesla power pack so you can charge the power pack when electric costs are low, and use the power to charge vehicles anytime?
This is crazy! New avenue for Out of Spec!!
Kyle hit the switch on his DCFC, neighborhod blackout 😂 Keep up the great vids! Looking forward to the infrastructure upgrade...🎉
So stoked!
Geeez. Can't quite wrap my head around the level of power you must have feeding into that building!
So freaking awesome 🎉
Super exciting! I have always wanted to know more about the process of trying to install a commercial grade charger and how hard or not it would be to make it work as a business. Looking forward to more in this series.
Finally got to watching this one. LOVE IT!!! It will be fun to follow along. On the slab. Make a couple lift points hidden under the unit. That way when finished with it at the test location, the slab can be lifted out of the ground. I'd do the outside overhead conduits. Then run them down to a U conduit in the slab for entry into the unit. Yeah, not pretty, but it is flexible for testing different units in the future. The U conduit could come out of the top of the slab, or out of the side and run to the side of the building and up. A splice box could be mounted high up on the building side. That way the conduit and wires from it to the charger can easily be swapped out for a later test charger. Those demand charges suck. Time to hit up battery bank companies for a demo unit for you and CSU to play with. Make sure the parking lot expansion plan has space for it and others.
My guess is that you'll need a load study on that distribution panel and possibly down line panels as well to ensure you do in fact have enough power for that new DCFC. Also, I'm guessing the campus/school will require a stamped drawings from an electrical engineer as well? Looking forward to seeing what the actual requirements will be and the total cost of construction combined with the necessary electrical work. Looks like a fun project!

Yeah a university building is going to have to go through all the red tape. The campus facilities and business office might have something to say about the power usage and cost as well. Somebody higher up could easily say no and derail the whole thing.
@fitybux4664

@@TechnicalLee I'm sure Kyle has backup plan upon backup plan. If the university says no, they are turning down a huge PR opportunity. And Kyle can just rent some commercial warehouse with enough juice and demo it there instead.
Looks like State Charge has some really big competition coming!
Some good stuff here- quite the jump for EV product analysis/review.Well done. Looking forward seeing how this works out. Skip to 19:00 to get to actual charger stuff
Yoooo this is so cool, wish all EVs used NACS though so you guys could only have NACS ports on it haha. This thing is going to be so useful for you guys with your battery testing videos and your EV race videos as well, congrats guys! 😄
Absolutely epic! That munching sound is Tom Moloughney eating his heart out... If possible, locate it at Green River or Moab or somewhere which badly needs it (and charge $1/kWh). ;)
