Unboxing & First Look: Labradar LX vs. Original Labradar - Big Orange or Little Orange?

When I started reloading in 2010 I picked up a Caldwell chronograph...the type or version you need to mount on a tripod in front of whatever platform you are testing loads on to ensure the bullet passes through the narrow channel of your "sun shade V" configuration. No shortage of images from folks who have misjudged and put a bullet through their chrony. Depending on your range rules (e.g., seated or standing for rifle or pistol depending on your lane) you may have to do considerable adjustment to the chrony.
Then along comes Labradar in 2015 or 2016. I was an early adopter and loved the fact you could have it right next to you on the bench with whatever you were shooting and see the display on the Labradar or your phone. A breakthrough IMO...but an expensive one. Buy once cry once. Well, I'm crying once again.
Fast forward to recently when Garmin introduces the Xero C1. Nice form factor and my first thought was when was Labradar going to come out with their "tiny" version to match or compete with the Garmin. With all the press the C1 was getting (great reviews) Labradar finally announced (not shipped) the LX. They did that to keep fans like me from purchasing the C1. I held back to see how the C1 would impact the market.
C1 got great reviews in print and online. Without knowing what Labradar would charge for their new LX (assuming same/similar to C1), I decided to wait it out before making a final product or purchase decision. Also wanted to see early or pre-release reviews of the LX. After all, I had a perfectly good Labradar with all the goodies and accessories, so functionality wise, I was already set. I just salivated on the new tiny (yeah cubes!) for factor as bringing the "full size" Labradar to the range (and the bench space it takes up) is something to think about.
My comparison came down to plastic vs. metal housing, price was same on both, size was close enough on both, made in China vs. Canada and finally previous product (owning the original Labradar and OTHER Garmin - just no chrony - products) experience and satisfaction. Based on this video, you know my decision.

I won't be heading to the range until this triple digit heat breaks...don't feel like melting out there right now.

@@ReLoadersBench I feel you, I went out last Monday for about 5 hours here in Texas. I felt like I was melting. In my bag, my advil gelcaps did melt into a solid blob!

Isgine how many sales LR lost by coming out with their LX unit 6 months after Garmin. We all charge over to Garmin in the last 8 months, and not looking back.
