It's still massively popular in Japan but yeah, a whole bunch of things contributed to it just not being that big in the west.

@@pppwhat A massive contributor was the poor performance of the english dub of the anime. The studio that did the dub didn't take it seriously and made the entire thing basically into one big shitpost and it killed any potential audience it could have had. With TCG games like this, the animes are a major driver of merchandise, and the west just didn't find it compelling enough due to the studio mishandling to justify the continued cost. On top of that, WotC fumbled the expansion releases, flooding with too many cards too quickly that weren't selling well to begin with. Overall the whole thing was just a net loss for them. They tried to redo it with Kaijudo, but that also bombed due to a lack of marketing. Believe it or not, Duel Masters is one of if not the most popular card game in Japan and they're still coming out with new cards to this day. It really is a shame.

I remember dunking my friends with aqua sniper and Crystal Lancer 20 years ago

Wasn’t it basically magic though? Idk I remember having a lot more fun playing this than magic but it seemed very similar if I remember correctly

@@chicono17 the feel may be similar from the first few sets, but mana system and shields with shield trigger was big deal - imo resource system is much better

Man these are a throwback. collected some of these when I was younger. I also remember playing the ps2 game they had for it.

omfg u unlocked a memory. i remember playing a different card game then yugioh and as i got older I believed it to be Magic. Boy was I wrong. That bone ghoul confirmed it. LOVED this game.

Takes me back ten years ago when this was fun like a video game now

Yeah, it's a problem I've been trying to figure out with every one I open lol. I use my phone to record and the FOV isn't very wide.

Does it make sense to start collecting it again from Europe? I dont think so, if i take a look at the Editions which were released for Europe and stopped at Edition 13, while Japan continued the editions until today. So does it make sense to collect and play until 13? Destroys the vibe to start it if u ask me cause it cant ever be a full set. Not even 50%

I considered it, in general being in the states it's much easier for me to get english versions of the original sets than it is to get the japanese versions. Personally it doesn't bother me too much, individual mileage will vary.

@@sirdhyne570 i dont talk about the English ones. Its no problem to get all german or english cards. But you would always stuck at Edition 12 for English cards while there exist already more than 39 Editions. The knowledge that u only collect until 30% max is annoying, isnt it? I would start collecting tomorrow if i had the chance to get them all in a way. But by only buying up to Edition 12-13 nah. If they had stopped the production at 13, we could talk bout it, but they produce until today. Sadly only japanese for the last 25 Episodes

@@Milotus. It bothered me at first, sure. But the ease of which I can get the older english cards is enough to outweigh the annoyance. It's already hard enough trying to find legitimate sellers for the japanese cards (I do have some!), trying to find them for the older sets is a nightmare. My plan, once I have all the english cards, is to switch to the japanese sets for the remaining cards. Maybe someday I'll wrap back around to getting the original sets in japanese too, who knows!

@@sirdhyne570 oh ye! And when I say the starter pack set I mean the booster that comes with the starter set! I also have some of the newer Japanese cards. My favorite one is joht gun Jorogun and was used for the colorless civilization called the Joker civilization. Speed attacker, double breaker, draws and discards whenever he attacks and has the ability that if the card discarded has "when this creature enters the battle zone" jorogun gets that ability. Leads to some insane combos if you play your cards right! Also he is a dunderhead in the anime that is like a college roommate (think more brawn and less brain and is one fun dude to be around), but hehas some insanely cool card art!

To the best of my knowledge they are official. I don't microanalyze every single detail about them. I don't know enough about card grading/history to tell and frankly I don't care enough to learn. Cards are cool and they look good. If they're replicas, oh well.

@@zaklesiou It's possible. I get them mostly off eBay and I'm getting them from so many different people that there's gonna be a chance of them not being official cards. Even so, I love them, official or not. Glad you enjoy!
