The astrophytum is gorgeous with all those wavy spines wrapped around it. I can see why Katherine likes Spegazinni so much. It has a lovely bluish color and the spines hover around it. I hope you see those frailea flowers. Mine often goes straight to fruit production without opening its flower. 😄 Great unboxing! “Salamat sa regalo.” Great job saying it. 😉

It's that colour! 🤣 Yes the Frailea are extremely reluctant to flower, because they are cleistogamous... I suppose they just cannot be bothered wasting their energy to flower 🤭🤣 but on the same hand, they are meant to open on the hottest and brightest sunny of days if they do want to flower, so for you that's perfect conditions. They are funny little things 😄 maybe try out giving them a huge drink of water the evening before a really hot sunny day is due (if you haven't tried that), see if that might persuade them 😉 ...Oh if mine flower it would be a miracle 🤭😄🌞🏜🌞🏜🌞🏜

Thank you Daz for watching! I love the spegazzinii, I can see why Katherine loves them, love the colour of it. I will have to do an update at some point on the plants you gifted me...all of the so far have settled in now, I think they had to adapt to my mix, but they have started to grow and none have rotted so far 🤞😁👍 The snowstorm is looking good now, I was worried it was sulking but it looks happy now 😀 I hope I said the tagalog correctly 🤭 I now have an emelyae major...so pleased with that!🤩

The Astrophytum has a very large crown of spines like a nest!🤣 Yes you do not see these in high street shops that often, if atall. Look out for an unboxing video in the future when I will send Katherine some plants for her to unbox from me... check her channel out... PURPLE & THORNS. 😊👍🌵🌺🌵🌺🌵

Great plants! Interesting notes about Frailea, didn't realise they were short lived. Mine are still babies so still have a ways to go.

Kath is really kind and thoughtful.What a beautiful collection.Thanks for sharing your ideas in right potting mix,another lesson for me😊 as I tend to use all same potting mix regardless of how much roots I have in cacti plants.That must be why some of my repotted cacti and succulents got rotten🥲 by using wrong mix soil

I love the cactus and the Haworthia! I use the same basic potting mix and add or leave out components if really necessary. So I would add extra bark or even a bit of coco coir to make the mix a bit more water retentive, for instance. I always add my bird shell grit separately so it's never mixed into my main batch. Sometimes I add extra clay pebbles crushed up or smaller clay pebbles, or add Kyodama into the mix, for smaller pots, for extra aeration etc etc. So yes it's better to make little changes to our potting mix to help the plants. So kind and generous of Katherine. The gymno spegazzenii and astro are beauties, all of the gifted plants are so pretty. We share the love of astrophytums😀 I notice one of your astros has some spots, mine has developed as well I can't see any pests so unsure what it is🤔

Thanks so much Magda for watching!😊 Do you mean the large nudum Astrophytum quadricostatum on left side (that has spots on it)? If so, this was the large one I bought recently from PurePlantUK from Dorota's 'odd shelf' so was sold with these surface marks, it's fine though. They are very corky. 😁
