Welcome to our channel! In this exciting video, we delve into the realm of guitar enthusiasts by unboxing and reviewing a Chinese knock-off Washburn Nuno Bettencourt Signature Series N4 Guitar. Join us as we discover if this replica shares any of the features of the original Official Washburn N4 and explore its unique neck joint, jumbo frets, playability, and sound quality. You won't believe what we uncover!
But first, let's dive into the history of the iconic Washburn N4 Guitar. Originally introduced in 1990, the N4 quickly gained a reputation as a highly versatile and groundbreaking instrument. Designed in collaboration with the virtuoso guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, the N4 was crafted to meet Nuno's demanding specifications. Its sleek body design, comfortable neck, and unique tonal characteristics set it apart from the crowd.
The Washburn N4 features some exceptional traits that make it a legendary instrument. One standout feature is the unique neck joint, known as the Stephens Extended Cutaway, which provides unparalleled access to the upper frets. Additionally, the guitar boasts jumbo frets, allowing for effortless bends and remarkable speed while playing. The N4 also includes a Floyd Rose tremolo system for those who love to dive bomb and add expressive nuances to their playing.
Did you know that Nuno Bettencourt, the renowned guitarist of the band Extreme, has been using the Washburn N4 as his main guitar for decades? His exceptional talent, combined with the N4's distinctive sound and playability, has become synonymous with his style. Speaking of Extreme, their highly anticipated new album, "Extreme Six," is set to be released soon. Stay tuned for more updates on its release date and exciting details!
Now, back to the Chinese knock-off N4 we have here. Chinese manufacturers have made significant strides in replicating high-quality instruments, and we're curious to see how this knock-off compares to the original. We managed to find this copy on eBay for a mere $270.00, a fraction of the price of an authentic Nuno Washburn N4, which typically ranges from $2500 to $4000. This price difference alone is staggering. Especially with a Stephens extended cutaway neck!
Join us as we unbox this guitar and thoroughly examine its build quality, finish, hardware, and electronics. We'll put it through its paces, testing its playability, tonal range, and overall sound quality. Will this knock-off live up to the reputation of the N4, or will it fall short? Let's find out together!
If you're a guitar enthusiast, a fan of Nuno Bettencourt, or simply curious about Chinese knock-off guitars, this video is a must-watch. Sit back, relax, and join us on this thrilling journey of unboxing, reviewing, and comparing the Chinese knock-off Washburn Nuno Bettencourt Signature Series N4 Guitar to the original N4.

Hi mate, me again. I've recently learnt that a lot of these guitars are build and sold by people working from home. They buy the wood from a workshop and rent time at the shop to machine it to whatever shapes they need. They then take the wood and parts home to make the guitar. This explains the amount of sellers online and the reason they only have enough kit for a certain amount of guitars (I.E. sold 4 with 6 available). Also, a great deal of the guitar is made by hand. This explains the one piece neck, its easier to sand to shape. Theres so much more work involved in making our N4s than other manufacturers would care to admit. Theres a video of someone making a Nele copy like this. Ill find it and drop it in the reply to this. Its long but you can see what someone has to do to create a copy, why they are cheap and the profit a lone luthier can make considering how cheap the materials would be when buying in bulk. I know we both used ours for modding which is perfect for these guitars. Take care

I guy at work told me he got an N4 replica. I say,"Cool let's jam." I take my '91 N2 and N4 Walnut to his house to jam. He had never seen a real N4 in person and his jaw dropped. He was quite impressed with my N2 as it is heavily modified and customised. Needless to say, he was very disappointed with his fake Nuno guitar. He was so deflated that it hurt me; I didn't mean to shatter his expectations. We did jam for a long session, exchanging guitars often mostly playing on the N2 and N4 Walnut. The replica found a cozy spot in a recliner. Their is no substitute for the real thing. Materials, fit, finish, pickups, hardware, etc. created in the custom shop is quality and perfection a import knockoff can't compete against.

Not all guitars are created equal. That's for sure. I don't use one example as a( fits all ) type of senero. Some are absolutely incredible, while others can be outright total garbage. In 2023, China's quality has vastly improved compared to previous years. I actually had a N4 here a few weeks ago. Amazing , incredible guitar, no doubt about that. I can't knock it in anyway. Keep in mind mine now has mods to the max. But playability on both is excellent. Is the real N4 better? Of course. No doubt about that. The components are first rate. But after upgrades, the replica holds its own. Rob, the owner of the N4 was quite impressed. He spent 2 hrs noodling on mine, shaking his head in disbelief, while I set up his FRS trem and installed a brass block. My point is there is good and bad of anything, and one size does not fit all. Thanks for watching brother. 🙂

As someone with 4 N4’s (Washburn vintage from 2014 custom shop and a mahogany) 2 custom builds done by a local luthier, plus a Nele, I would definitely agree the real N4’s are hot rods of the highest order. BUT…not everyone is looking to drop $2k plus on a used guitar. My 2014 N4 ran me $2150 and it’s 9 years old. If the quality on the knockoffs is decent then by all means mod it out into a great players guitar. This was a cool vid as I had never seen a knockoff N4. It isn’t fooling any real N4 enthusiast, but still cool for what it is.

I aquired a N24 shortly. Great Guitar! No need to pay nearly 3000 (!) EUR more for the original N4 (Germany). The Neck is to die for, although its very thin, but because of the D-Shape it seems to be bigger than it actually is and gives some solid grip! But what you called a good setup of 1mm across the neck would really be unplayable for me! I have a Neck Relief of 0,25mm and String Action of at least E 2,25mm and e 1,75mm (with 10-56 Strings in E-Standard) and actually even running it with E 2,50mm and e 2,00mm, opens up the sound a lot!

I agree. 10-46 would really push the limits on this one. 9- 42 at 1mm is about as low as it can be. Especially with drop D tuning. Whoever set it up at the factory definitely did a great job. That's refreshing for a change. Thanks for watching!

Yes I noticed that. They also added a heal for strength. It's almost an improvement other than the fact that now I need a string bar. I'm satisfied. However, now I'm seriously thinking of buying the real deal after seeing how good the fake plays. Thanks for watching! UPDATE: So after some research I found that on some N2 models in 90-91 had a stright headstock. But not ever on a N4 from what I've found so far. Very Interesting indeed.

  • @subd3

They could have done the scarf joint and head tilt back. Also, they didn't rear mount the nut. But..oh well. Not bad for a China guitar I guess.

Interesting video. Is the bodyof a similar size to the N4 and N2?? I can't really see that. The reason I like this particular copy is that before Nuno had his Washburn signature he built his own guitar, kind of like EVH. Unless Nuno and EVH were professional luthiets rhen I would say that chinese copies are om a par with the ones they made. Washburn would well way more of these if they price was decent. In my own opinion the Washburn Nuno range are in the top 5 of best ever signature models.

My copy arrived the other day. It took 6 weeks to get here (I live in the U.K.). The body is spot on, I got it as a modding template but came fully playable out of the box. I've already put a trem on it and the pick ups are fine. Got to change the machine heads, though, they are useless. Obviously I would have rather an original but they are stupidly expensive, it makes me wonder just how much profit Washburn make from each one. I had to use another seller (rhyme-guitar) as the link you had wouldn't send to the U.K. For £250 to my door it's amazing, after modding this one up I might get another. Again, thanks for uploading this video. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have got it. Take care.

I remember his first signature guitar, wood grain body, but I can't remember what the guitar looked like, only remember wanting one badly, ended up with an Ibanez blues jet, that was hanging up right next to it, I don't know what it is about this new style, but I have no interest in these types of guitars, I know they are fast great playing guitars, just not into the body style.

Does it have the correct headstock angle? Nope. Does it have a fender heel profile on the treble side of the neck? Yes. The shape of the headstock is wrong. The shape of the body is wrong (look at that lower horn…). The Stephen’s part of the neck is extending at least 1/16” outside of the body. The belly cutout is not deep enough.
