I really enjoyed this episode about Amphiboles. Brittany's explanation of the Bowen reaction series was very helpful. The Scapolite samples looked a lot like Kunzite and Hiddenite. An episode that compares minerals that look the same but are different might be very interesting to viewers. Thanks for all the info. You make learning new things fun!

Love me some deep dive into geology! I loved learning about Bowen's reaction series in my studies so it was fun to hear it mentioned! Also, we have a lot of tremolite and actinolite in the mine I work at and I have a beautiful piece with tremolite crystals within a chunk of talc!

I had a tiger’s eye purse charm but it went missing. I knew it was long fibers in a quartz matrix. Don’t know how I didn’t put together that it was amphibole! So cool

Well I wouldn't say it's a quartz "matrix" but rather that the fibers have become silicified (or as stated in the video, integrated). You can think of it like fossilized asbestos basically!

Thank you Brittany & Rob, another fascinating look at some amazing specimens. I have Swiss Opal, I don’t think it’s Swiss neither is it Opal, but it’s pretty, anyone know if it’s dangerous as I heard it had Asbestos in it. Thanks for sharing. 😀

Actinolite is the one I had never seen before. The "Rays" created are stunning. I wonder if I could find some here in Montana. I live on a Granite Batholith. And quartz, Hornblende, Biotite and Lepedolite are evident for miles. I am gonna rewatch this to get some more clues as to whether Actinolite crystalizes at similar temps to the crystals evident in these mountains.

To know about these gemstones are actinolite is so fascinating.😯💎 I find the facts about them and some gems I never knew about🤔 even some you have to be careful not to breath close.😷🤭 My favorite one is the tiger's eye gem🐅💎, I like the patterns on it. Thanks for teaching us about them and see you later.👨‍🏫🙂💎

Like your other videos, I found this one very informative. By sheer coincidence I read up on amphibole this afternoon. I've taught intro to logic many times, and thought it was pronounced the same as 'amphiboly'--a kind of mistake that's often grouped with informal fallacies (it's technically not since its not a move in an argument). A few hours later I now know I was mispronouncing the name in my head.

I also have actinolite from the Austrian alps. Years ago I was warned to take precautions because it could create lung cancer. I never bought bysolite because it's so fibrous also because of the health danger.. But now I saw your video.. Is it really "bueno" to hold them in my hands or "not so bueno"?

Me with my asbestos collection just ... there *looks away*. I know I have to get them little boxes, but I have so many... And they're so soft. My family comes from the asbestos region in Quebec, so we have a lot of pieces and serpentine, and many magnesium tinted minerals.

Tigers Eye and Pietersite....are they similar and....what do you guys..or anybody for that matter think of Pietersite? I own a number of silver rings with this cool looking gemstone. That's all and keep on giving us cool gem loving content.

Pietersite is a brecciated variety of tiger’s-eye that forms in association with banded iron formations and jasper. Brecciated means that the rock has been broken through geological processes and naturally cemented back together over time. I own pietersite myself and I love the color varieties and the way the fibrous bands catch the light. We have a large specimen at one of the entrances to our building. Check out our gemstones.com site www.gemstones.com/gemopedia/pietersite to see some of the different color varieties. A picture of our specimen will be added to the page soon.
