Unboxing a SEALED eMachines PC from 2000. Can it play GAMES?!
Ойындар
This eMachines eTower 333c computer has been sitting brand new UNOPENED at RE-PC. Today, I open it for the first time and try to play some games on it. The results are... mixed to say the least! Thanks to RE-PC for letting me borrow it.

The BIOS Checksum Error means that the CR2032 Battery is depleted, just replace it with a new one, it's just a regular CR2032 Lithium Battery (not Lithium-ION, not rechargeable)

"But Can It Run Crysis?" :D
On December 31st, 2000, Amazon stock had crashed down to 78 cents. $400 of stock at this price would be about $70,000 today. That could buy a pretty sweet gaming PC! And a brand new car too!

DAMN !!
You are correct, the CMOS cheksum error is the CR2032 battery on the motherboard. You can probably pop it out with a pencil or pen and it'll clear that error. Very simple fix for about 1-3 bucks.
This is EXACTLY...The content we want to see from MJR 💯

Man, this brings back memories. I worked in the PC department at Best Buy in 2002-2003 when I was in high school and sold so many eMachines.

In high school, I worked in a call center doing tech support in 1997-1999 and I remember when they first hit the market and we immediately absolutely hated eMachines. Their QC was so bad back then and we had to tell so many people to return them. This brings back so many memories 😆

Got a similar eMachines PC in a matte box still sealed since I bought it in 2001 from Circuit City (now defunct). I bought it as a cheap backup for my business but never needed it so yeah it's still just sitting in its original box. heh
My parents got my older brother one of these when he graduated high school and went to college. That's pretty cool to see a sealed one in 2023.
Got my first PC in late 98-early 99. It was an HP and I remember it had 7.84GB hard drive. It cost over $1,000 and I felt like a total badass.

To answer the question Amazon stock, Amazon shares in January of 2000 was going for about $3.44 a share, which for $400 you could buy 116 shares. Today Amazon is trading about $139 a share so you would have turned $400 into $16,124 which is a pretty decent return.
@JaredConnell

But Amazon stock split 20:1 last year, so multiply that number by 20 and you'd have $322,480!
@theflipper404
10 ай бұрын
If you had sold in Jul 6 2020, before the split, when amazon was $3000 a share. You would have made 348,000
Average amazon stock price in 2000 was $2.32 per share. For 400 you could but 174 shares. Multiply by the price now, you'd have $23,650
@pleebianmusk

You’d probably have a lot more than that because they’ve split the stock a couple of times I think..?

For Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 all you need to do change resolution and into software mode is go to the options and then display controls. You'll be able to change the resolution and switch between hardware and software mode.
What an awesome find! Thanks for posting this video. The PC is so retro and reminds me of the computers i used to use
Holy Cow! This is so cool. Thank you for making this video. I really enjoy these type of videos.
Watching the lag on THPS2 brought back nightmares of my old PC 😆. I just never seemed to have enough memory and was always a little behind with my graphics cards. Awesome video as always!
I love when you release computer content!
Great video. I'd love to see another video where you do some upgrades and see what the difference would be.
Love the old pc reviews you do. More of this!

MJR, this video was a throwback - brought back a ton of memories. That said this machine could have been lower to midrange even by 1998 standards. If you're willing to tinker around, I would start by replacing the battery on the mainboard, tweaking the BIOS slightly then find a Voodoo 2 card, which will help tremendously in the gaming department.
Super sick video! So many memories of those old msdos games!! takes me back to my old 386 boxes...
I used to work for Sykes Enterprises in a call center that did tech support for eMachines. One weekend, our server went down for the whole center, and we couldn't get anything from corporate until Monday. Our IT crew took one of the demo eMachines from the floor, stuffed it with all the RAM they could fit into it, added the HD from the server, and it kept us running for the next two days. Amazing!
omg haha Love it. Ive been going back and watching all your old vids. you always seem to find the cool stuff.

The Cyrix chips were very weak at floating point(which presumably means relatively terrible software 3D rendering), but were very good for general Windows usage. I had an MII 233, mostly for business, and it was excellent for that. I'm pretty sure it was this PC that I added a 3DFX Voodoo(not Voodoo 2) to, from memory that combination worked well for games.

Love this video! Even though you didn't keep it, we all loved watching it. I was 3-4 years old when that came out!!!! Crazy!
I had a later model of this pc that had windows xp and a celeron. I used to play Diablo 2 on it all the time. It's so awesome seeing Emachines PC's start getting traction on KZread again. Thanks metal jesus for making such an awesome video
You are literally my to for gaming knowledge!!! Love it!!! 💗💗💗 Never seen one of these before!
These were cool little PCs - I bought a bunch of the Intel versions for the family biz back when they first came out. Somewhat upgradeable too! Could pop in a Pentium II!

I don't normally watch unboxing videos but I'll make an exception for this one :) Pretty hilarious!
This was one of the first computers my family had. This brings back so many memories!
4:35 my hopes were dashed a bit to see this wasn't one of the models with the infamous "This Machine is NEVER obsolete!" sticker on the 5.25" blanking plate, but it was still a blast to see you unbox it! Someday I'm wanting to get me one with the original sticker and turn it into a sleeper beast
that was my first pc as a kid in the 2000’s.. got it as a hand me down from my dads job. happy to feel the nostalgia once again!
It's like Christmas. Metal Jesus does indeed rock. They really were a good buy in comparison to the Gateway Behemoths. I spent $3000 on a loaded Gateway and it was a great computer loaded to the gills, but I wish I had bought an emachines.
You need a glide wrapper for quake2 to work with older ATI Rage 2 or the RIVA 128. thye made functional OPENGL drivers after, but generally Glide/Gllide Wrapper is what you needed back then.

Unreal should work too, if he had gone into the advanced settings and picked a different renderer than the default software one. The Rage 3D isn't a great card but it's about as good as a Voodoo 1, and probably sufficient for games that will run ok with the rest of that computer.

From what I remember, eMachines used refurbished hardware which is why they were able to sell the desktops so cheaply. As a consequence though, they had a high failure rate.

I used to do tech support for eMachines. The only refubished stuff was when a computer came back for repair or replacement, in which case they were refurbished. The money-saving for the company came from using low-end power supplies and software modems, both of which failed too often.
Nice! More of this please!
Back around 2005 this was the brand computer I used for music production . With a PCI card it actually ran pretty well for that with no crackling or distortion in the audio.
Old tech brings back memories of my old elementary school giving me one of there retired PCs. Also I think it's awesome you can use capture cards on these old machines. That adds good views of the screen. Big ups!
Awesome you got back into your original passion of Gaming PCS especially the older ones
Awesome unboxing video man 😎!

I used to have a few of these emachines and I loved them. I really miss these amazing PCs. I would always play games on them, all day and it was a great experience
I still shudder just thinking about "This program has performed an illegal operation and needs to shut down", but I did love the eMachines we had!

I like this retro unboxing category!
Oh man the nostalgia. I’m 31 and I had memories of Age of Empires 2 and the Sims come back
Lovely to see old tech from ones own youth, I remember when we got our first computer sometime in late '97 or early '98 as I remember The Curse of monkey Island had recently been released and I was playing the heck out of that game, we were also fortunate to be subscribed to a PC Magazine that had the full release of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars as a free bonus in one of their issues, usually you would only get shareware, sadly it meant we only got the discs and not even a CD-case for it as a drawback.
look at that sweet piece of hardware! I had a similar model back in 2001
My first PC was an Emachines computer. I used it to play Descent 1 and 2, Lords of Magic, Warwind, Diablo and sierra games. They were the fondest memories...I would love to experience it again. I remember my cousin and I dreaming of the day they'd release the VOODOO 3 so we could play the anticipated Descent 3, man that really takes me back...
Nice video. Brings back a few memories. Not that I ever owned one of these machines but I was "the guy" to bring your computer to if it had problems. They must have bought the cheapest of the cheap components for those machines because I distinctly remember swollen or burst caps on three of them that were only a couple of years old. Granted, bad caps were a thing back then but still you should reasonably be able to expect more longevity out of even a cheap computer.
Damn, takes me back when I first played Unreal and Quake 2. Loved those games. Remember that cool FPS NO ONE LIVES FOREVER ? Love your vids man.
This machine is CLEAN! I want it. Lol. I had one just like this in 97. My families first pc. Super cool video!

This was a blast from the past! I totally remember e-machines and they were your very low end PC. Back then 3GB felt like 300GB by today's standards.
I have a IBM Aptiva that I managed to buy for $200. It is a complete system with monitor and all. It's from 1998. Was a great experience to unbox. It came from a person that happened to pass away before they got a chance to use it. And it got placed in a closet for 20 years before a estate sale happened.
I enjoyed this style of unboxing. It would be VERY cool to see a sort of “best” Pc build of each decade, and play the most demanding/popular titles for each of those decades on those pcs
My first computer was an Emachines …. Emonster 550. Pentium 3 550 MHz…those were the days ❤.
Wow that brings back memories. I loved my emachine back in the day.
I loved this video! Such a great trip down memory lane. My PC at the time wasnt too bad then in middle school, cause it ran THPS2 no problem. I also had Trickstyle, Re-Volt, Serious Sam, Unreal/Unreal Tournament, buncha Delta Force/Rainbow Six games lol among others.
Well that brings back memories. We were selling those when I started at Best Buy many moons ago
I have an emachines purchased in 2004 that i have hooked up, still runs great.
U is my favorite youtuber since i watch u for the first time in 2010
Feels like I’m in high school again watching someone open an eMachine. Awesome stuff! Makes me think of those Dell commercials “Dude you’re getting a Dell”! Lol
Nothing beats those antique keyboards. I've one of those and it feels great.
Blast from the past. I had an Emachines around this time. Likely the same model. Cool to revisit... Happy Collecting and Unboxing !!!
What I love about this, is that since MJR isn’t a retro pc enthusiast, he’s pretty much a capable noob when unboxing So in reality, this would be very very similar what most people would experience when unboxing this back in the day. It has a time portal vibe as a result Normally these videos are done by people with in depth knowledge, which is a totally different experience. MJR had enough knowledge to get everything working without issue though which is amazing!
Thank you for amazingly interesting topics in videos content

Great video. I grew up playing Sierra and LucasArts adventure games, on the mighty Tandy 1000 EX!
Emachines was me and my moms first pc! this brought back so many memories coming home from school and playing scorched earth and eating ramen haha.
My first real PC that was my own was an eMachines 500idx, which looked pretty much the same as yours from the outside. Socket 370 Celeron 500, ATI RAGE AGP graphics also integrated into the motherboard, and a DVD drive! Pretty rocking for the year 2000. I don't have the computer itself anymore unfortunately, but I still have the box, which is also like yours but green instead of purple.
This was my first computer back in 1999 or so. Good pc for the time and a bit of a learning experience. My mom bought it from Sears that summer and it worked good when it did. Ended up breaking twice and they replaced the PC each time. On the second time Sears or eMachines did a recall on them so we bought a better Compaq from the era. Looking back on it it was most likely the power supply having issues. Definitely a blast from the past.
Great throwback! I had a Compaq Presario and thought it was the best PC Ever at the time!
That is so cool! Back when a PC would come with stuff to look through and CD's and games and oh man!
Dude that is the same computer in the same exact year that I had! I loved that thing.
Stop rocking my memory box MJR!! One love and big up. And now that I've commented, I'm gonna watch the vid.
A very nice video going back to an old journey ⚘⚘❤😄
OMG I had a Cyrix M2 at 333mhz. Actually, I played Diablo 2 on it. :)
I really still can't believe this still runs! Electronics tend to basically desintegrate after 20 years! And here you are showing a 24 years old machine running like a charm!! :-O
My first computer was an eMachines ME (millennium Edition). I loved that computer and my grandpa got it for me.
New MJR video means it’ll be a good day!
Thanks MetalJesus! You did not mention the audio quality from the speakers.

Ah I should have! They… work just fine. Obviously almost no bass, but back then…you probably would need a separate sub woofer.
I had that eMachine - I bought it off my mom in 2000. Had windows ME with a Celeron and maxed it out at 1 gig with a lower end AMD card. It was a great little setup for Counter-Strike 1.6 had a lot of fun.
I really enjoyed this
I used an eMachine case for my very first PC build way back when. I ended up printing stickers for that case and calling it the ReMachine. I also ended up giving it to my Mom and Dad and they're still using it the last time I checked.😄
I wish there was a store like Re-PC near me. Talk about vintage nerd heaven. Would love to build some period correct gaming systems with high end parts
Now let’s see next a decent computer unboxing 😂. Very fun video to watch. I never had anything like this. I’m from Cuba 🇨🇺. My first experience was a Wii U here.
That's so cool!!
I bought the same exact computer in 1999,but the Celeron version. The Rage II was soldered to the motherboard and ran on the AGP bus. There was no actual AGP slot available, but there were two free PCI slots and an ISA slot. It performed great for non-gaming tasks, but was a little sluggish for many games. I bought my first nVidia card, a Creative Labs branded PCI RIVA TNT, for it and it could handle everything I threw at it for a couple of years. The only thing that ever gave me problems was noisy power supply fan. It wasn't a great computer, but it was an absolutely OK one, especially for the price.
My first experience with the eMachines was at 1999 when our local library got a few of them for surffing on the Net.
This takes me back. E-Machine was our first PC in 1999 and our first DVD Player with an 8x DVD-ROM. 13GB Hard Drive and it had a Pentium 2 I believe with Windows 98 SE. Eventually added a CD burner to it. Made a fatal mistake by installing Windows ME. Crapped it up even worse. Had some kool games pre-installed. Integrated ATI Graphics.
Holy freaking cow Jason … I think that was the same Computer I had … amazing stuff … it barley could run half life but I remember having some of the best times with it . Wow amazing it came stocked with windows 98 and I remember because of the 333 mhz lol
As others have pointed out, fixing the CMOS error is just a matter of popping out the CR2032 button battery and replacing it. You will likely have to reset the clock but that's nothing. This brought back memories because my little sister got an EMachines (I think it was a Celeron 466 or 500) around the middle of 2000 using some deal that got it for next to nothing. Before that she had an old Frankenstein her ex built her that barely reached 72 mhz; she had me check it out and discovered he had installed a BackOrifice program before leaving (nice :)). I removed it but she decided a new computer was in order. She kept it going until 2007, when she bought her first laptop.
Metal cheeses 🧀 The 90’s are insanely modern. That’s when things changed the most.
Need For Speed 2 SE was my first computer game back in 97/98 along with Titanic Adventure Out of Time. Seeing Need For Speed 2 definitely bought back memories.
I love the seeing Diablo running on that emachine, it brings back memories. Did you know Diablo was also released on the PS1 and it's two player couch co-op?
I love this. I still have an AMD machine in the same case that I use for Age of Empires II. I believe I've had to replace the capacitors twice, and I'm on the 4th power replacement.
Great to see some more PC content. Coincidentally I’ve just picked up an EMachines Pentium 4 to play all of my Win XP games. Just need to get it setup and a decent graphics card installed so I can play Far Cry and Half Life 2. I use a Pentium 2 for Win XP with a 3dfx Voodoo 3 inspired by your Pentium 2 video.
ATI RAGE! Had one of these because the good cards were so unaffordable for a kid back then. I love the nostalgia of these old machine brick cases. You're right about that CMOS though, those have a lifespan of like 5-10 years. It's definitely gone by now.
My 1st store bought comp.
I'm not a PC guy BUT I LOVE YOUR PC VIDEOS. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU GO TO THAT SHOP!!!!!!
Blast from the past 🎉
Having owned a 533id2 as our families first "New" pc as a kid, this brings back memories. I played endless hours of Diablo and StarCraft on it as that seemed to be one of the only things I could reasonably play. Emulators also ran pretty well on it as well. Eventually I got a voodoo 3 for it and was able to play Quake and Test drive. But then the bottleneck was the tiny hard drive.
I had one of those back in the day. Still have recovery disc.
