    Exciting! Nice to see more folx buying the Roterfaden! I received my very first one about a month ago. Almost exactly like yours., Mine is an A5, dark brown with the red elastic and dark grey suede interior. I’ve been using it daily to house my sketchbook and a notebook for notes of online art classes I take. The same plastic sleeves you have I hold handouts in and I bought a plastic zipper folder (exactly like the Midori ones but in A5, from Amazon, which I tuck a very slim Art Toolkit paint palette and travel brush into! It’s been an absolute joy to use and so well made!

    These are superb 👍🏻 I’ve not had mine too long but just chose the wrong version really. I went for an SO_22 in a limited blue colour (favourite colour) and I think I’d prefer having both the rear inside pocket like yours and the closure elastic too. Good first look Bradley and I’ll await the review 🙂 I think you’ll like it. I use A5 tomoe river inserts and some of the Roterfaden ones too.

    Your first pronunciation was perfect! "Roter Faden" literal means red string, but figuratively it means the central theme of a story. So if you use it as a diary it will contain the common thread of your life's story. Your fiancé is right about the translation of "Taschenbegleiter". This word could be used for anything that is always on your side and lives in the pocket of your pants. I enjoyed your video :)

    Your video inspired me to order a leather notebook to jot down some . . . I'll call them "moments of clarity or self-awareness". Wondering if it might be easier/faster/safer? to first dictate ideas on the phone before using a notebook. No rules I suppose. The microphone with notes app is quick to capture ideas, but seemingly not as satisfying as a tactile book. Block letters and chicken scratch. Not sure I can get thoughts down on paper fast enough. Fleeting things they are! For example, earlier today I came to an understanding about . . . hey look those two squirrels are chasing each other up that tree! One inbound leather notebook AND Simon game... Chacom Grand Cru--> molasses. Not often talked about, but good with coffee.

    Hi Bradley, just wanted to say that your pronunciation is really good (I'm German)! Your first variant is the correct one where you don't pronounce "Faden" like in the English "to fade" but with a more open "a" sound. But also "Taschenbegleiter" which is not an easy word I presume - really well, kudos! And it's true: it can be translated as "bag companion" but also as "pocket companion". For example, a pocket knife is "Taschenmesser" in German since we call a pocket in trousers and jackets "Tasche". And a bag is also a "Tasche". Looking forward to your next video, all the best! Michael

    Late to the party, but glad to see this review! As I said on last week's Monday Stuff and Things, I'm currently using the Midori A5 planner as my primary art planner. The planner is about on par with the regular Midori notebooks in terms of size, so it was nice to see how it fits in the Roterfaden system. I previously used the Roterfaden inserts from Baum Kuchen years ago, possibly for university note taking? I can't remember. Something worth mentioning is that elastic degrades over time, so I'm curious to find out how well the spine of the Roterfaden system will hold up. Does the company offer any sort of repair/upgrade service when that time comes?

  • @stuffandthingsyoutube

    @stuffandthingsyoutube

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm curious about the elastic too. I don't think the binding will be an issue, as that is fairly rigid (doesn't have much stretch to begin with), but the band that holds it closed will probably loosen over time. We shall see.

  • @apaperylife2096

    Roterfaden will repair it for free but of course you have to send it to them. Since that does not work for many of us, they ship a replacement band which you can use , it just won’t be sewn in.

    A very cool system. I ordered one custom a few years ago since Midori was just too small for me. This thing can get very bulky but can handle it. Everything is super durable and well made except the red elastic closure got pretty flimsy on me after more than a year of use. It still works but I wish there was a way for the end user to easily replace it without ripping/stitching a new piece in. My favorite notebook for Roterfaden is the Midori MD A5 (same as Bradley has.) I use this plus a smaller Rhodia staplebound and a plastic pouch. Also had a Rhodia topbound pad in the large back pocket for tear away notes.

    You are unnaturally obsessed with saying that name Bradley. It looks like a fun system but wow that price point is a big ask. I will be curious to see your full review when it comes. My one 'gripe' with my Midori has always been the sizing of the Pages. I have many Notebooks for my Fountain Pens from Rhodia, Stalogy and Midori as well as Galen Leather (which I would happily recommend for inclusion in your Roterfaden as they are a great size/page count for that I think. I believe the Everyday Notebook they offer is 64 Pages.

    its funny how many people criticize the travelers notebook and they think they can better the travelers notebook but honestly the design is perfect and that's why there's so much popularity and why other companies want to copy their concept but cannot imitate it. to me that cover looks just like a folio reminds me a lot of the Galen leather and who wants to carry metal clips in their notebook vs strings doesn't make sense to me but each its own and the midori travelers notebook cost 55.00 and do come with a signature book . this item seems too complicated to me to big and not one bit budget friendly for the everyday responsible bill paying person and looks like those metal prongs will rip your notebooks or stab you its just not a smart design to me

    B5 and B4, but those are more Japanese sizes. A4 is slightly longer in length and less width than letter size. Which is the rest of the world if you really think about it. So basically A4 is half of A3, which is half of A2… and A5 is half of A4, and A6 is half of A5, then A7 down to I believe 8. I would not want to ruin my hobonichi and Tomae river paper in these clips. Though I do like the cover you bought.

    It is expensive, yes - but in 10 years it still works and looks like new, the quality of the materials is outstanding. They got some videos on their youtube channel, who people show their Taschenbegleiter after years of usage. So you got good quality materials, a good support, the ability to get everything repaired if something is broken down - and if you use it for many years, the price equals.

    In true German fashion: Over engineered product that has severe limits to it's functionality in efforts to add in a clipping mechanism. Vs piece of folded leather, pot metal and some stretchy bands. Not gonna lie, the travelers is overpriced as hell. You could make your own. With the only difference being the lack of that pewter holder. Other than that. The german piece just doesn't seem as customizable. In an effort for more engineering to allow A5 size (I really doubt the elastics could hold such GIRTH) you're limited by what you order at the factory while with the Midori you can just yoink it out when you decide
