Nice find. Looks like everything is nearly brand new. The Turbines are my favorite Lionel locomotives. Great runners, strong pulling power, and best of all, very easy to service. Can't wait to see more of this set.

The opening of each box unveiling the content is very well done. You have received a beautiful part of what is probably a great collection. I am certain that the person who gave you this anticipated that you would not just enjoy having it but, run it as well. This 70 year old heirloom is in good hands!

Wonderful set you’ve got there!! Classic Toy Trains magazine had an in depth series on 6464 box cars and their boxes many years ago. There you might find some information about that blacked out box description.

As for your question about the 6464 car the box was over stamped in the factory. My guess was the blacked out part originally said Western Pacific. For 6464 -1 western Pacific car. Otherwise a very nice set, enjoy running it

That’s a really nice set! I have an earlier 681 set from 1950-51. A turbine is a must have for anyone who collects and runs Lionel!

The Great Northern boxcar is the 6464-25. Your box has the name marked over and a hand stamped "25" on the end flap. I found some other Great Northern cars and they have a "25" printed on both sides of Lionel. The 6464-1 Western Pacific boxcar box does not have any other numbers on it other than the "6464'. My guess is that this car was made before they had 6464-25 boxes printed and they used a 6464-1 box and crossed out the name and hand stamped a "25" on the end. Look closely at the printing and see if you can make out "Western Pacific" under it. Usually the overstamping is done a little neater than this though.

Wow, a Mighty Pennsy Turbine set from 1953! It's as old as I am! And in a heck of a lot better shape! Amazing condition, it looks like whoever owned it really treasured it. And the folks who gave it to you gave it to one of the best homes on the planet! Many happy years to you with it!

The 3520 does not light up and does not rotate; the switch is probably in the off position. The switch can be operated by a UCS track or manually.
