The lazy pawl on that Civic needs to pushed down, and therefore, you should’ve used the end of the slim jim with the “v”-shaped notch. (Which wouldn’t have gotten caught on anything in the door.)
Best tool to use is an airbag and a 1/2” thick, 36” bent rod….slim jims are a pain in the ass to use on new cars…
