In a remarkably short period of time - roughly 10 weeks of training after not riding at all for 7 months - I had a great day out in Emporia, Kansas, and finished Unbound Gravel 200!
Here's me and Dan Cavallari recapping the lead-up and the event and talking through how it all got done. Lots of folks helped and played along and I am very grateful for that.

Thanks! I agree and was wishing I had some while editing. I shot some on-bike stuff last year but this year I really wanted to be focused on the ride so it was a choice. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

Nice recap, Mark! Nutrition question, all of your nutrition came through your drink mix? Any gels, or chews? Throughly enjoyed your series and certainly helped me prepare for my first 100 at Unbound this year, thank you! I’ll definitely be taking a deeper dive into nutrition going forward as I feel that is one of the biggest factors in what kind of day you are going to have.

Thanks! Yep, all the nutrition (but for the small bits of real food mentioned) came through the Tailwind Endurance mix. I mixed 250 calories per 24 ounces and aimed to drink one per hour. Incredibly even energy all day. I think the biggest factor was using it in training so I felt I could trust the process, training up to the 250 calories/hour which isn't so much really, an ensuring I didn't throw it all off by gorging at the checkpoints on the buffet on offer. I'm confident that when it goes south for most folks, it's got more to do with ingesting more carbohydrates/calories than can be digested and once blocked, it is difficult to recover. Thank you! Those are Shimano XTR pedals that I bought back in 2006 or 2007 I think, maybe earlier. I didn't use them much until gravel bikes came into my life.
