Great review, I'm glad because mine is ordered and will be here this week. Going over all the positions and settings will save me a bit of time. I've been on the fence about which 30" scale to buy and had looked for the original SCR6. I love the variety of tones it can produce. I think going multiscale helps with the longer scale ranges. I lot of the bass vi and other guitars can be great but after this mod to the bridge, pick up, or the like. I'll get this in and be ready to jam.

Follow up: I've had mine 4 days now, and can hardly put it down. It was touched on in the review, but it makes you want to play. For me, that was worth the price of admission alone. It has such a ranch of tones. It'll happily give you traditional bass sounds, djent all you like, and have you trying something else. I was surprised by how it has me playing further down the scale and up the strings. It has range. Think it's a great value at the price point. Things I might tweak would put that price quite a bit higher, like maybe putting Fishmans in it or a Nordtrand set.

Such a weird design, I like it a lot. Wish they'd do a more guitar-focused 30" baritone but they've got the RGIB at 28" so I can see why they're making a distinction between those lines

@@KaiDown perhaps in theory if you use thinner strings, but if you can’t do bends or any of the other tricks, then you’re just playing bass. I get it’s a preference thing but the need for an extra long baritone is over stated. You can tune a 25.5 down pretty low. 27 is a good balance

  • @KaiDown

@@shirtpants4203 You can still do bends and pinch squeals and anything else on a 30" guitar - I set mine up with the same tension as a set of 10s in E standard at 25.5, so it just feels like a normal guitar with a longer neck and a lower tuning. I've got a bunch of different scale length baritones; 27", 27.75", 29" and 30" and there isn't a massive difference between them in terms of feel.

Ibanez really has been out doing themselves lately. I love this thing a lot. Great review! I just got the new Rg-8 with fan frets. (Had the old Rg-8. Got it in about 2016 and it was my main guitar gor years). And let me tell you. With the new Rg-8. Its like they read my mind about all my dislikes and actually addressed them properly. Im in love with my new baby. Theyre very solid instruments.

Absolutely the best review i've seen for this guitar. Very in-depth and enjoyable to watch. I gotta ask, how do you feel about this guitar now if you still have it? The only thing I think I wouldn't like is the knobs being where they are like you mentioned. Idk if I would be able to work with that or not.

interesting, with a bit of arrangement to certain parts of your material you could record a whole project with this. As in taking the concept of using just one guitar to record all the parts to allow for intonation issues this instrument bring that option to guitar and bass parts.

Great to hear from you again! It's funny, when I was starting off with guitar and music in general I used to think Ibanez basses we're built like spaceships. Hey Arnold nice vid. I looked into the older SRC 6 model, a used non-Indo one about 2 years ago. It’s basically the same but no multi scale. I like how it sounds through your guitar amp/sim. It’s interesting because those really look like bass pickups on it. I like the noisyness of it too. My choice would be to play through a guitar amp as well. Im wondering if the knob placement is different on the older SRC6? Ive heard some cool ambient guitar hooks with that older model in the clean setting. The Bunn has an awesome sludge example using it. Surely my next vi will be the SRC 6. Im still feeling partial to my Hellraiser though. Great review

IMO they should have put guitar tuners on that bass instead of the Y shape bass tuners for aesthetics. Also not use a clear finish on a body with more than two pieces that are also often mismatching, cuz I've seen photos of this model with even a 4 piece body that looks grotesque, and concerning on that price range.
