You should actually do a test with the S22 Ultra, Z Fold4 and the iPhone 14 Pro Max where both of the Samsung phones are using the 'Expert RAW' camera app instead to compare the 'RAW' quality on them. Because it's kind of weird to use the 'ProRAW' mode on the iPhone while not using the 'RAW' mode on the Samsung phones as they also can use it. However, I think the 'RAW' mode on the Samsung phones are limited to 12 megapixels though, if I'm not wrong. But would be nice to compare that anyways.

I find myself, with the knowledge I have now about these patterns that if two look the same, the 3rd one should be the other phone and it messes with my judgement 😭 Of course sometimes there’s clear differences across all three but often you’d find that two look similar and the other different.

I kinda disagree 'cause it's not just how the subject looks at the camera that they're trying to analyze but also how the background appears, the details of the skin, and the color saturation. It also adds how they know the subject well since it's their relatives so they know how their skin appears in real life.

If you want the sky to be perfect, just tap the sky to focus and it fixes the blown out sky while maintaining proper exposure on the subject as well. As it is an ultra wide lens, the focus tap doesn’t matter.

It’s a frustration that a lot of people have, you can check Reddit and Samsung community forums to verify this issue. MaxTech isn’t being biased, they are just using the highest resolution from each phone. The fact that Samsung doesn’t support raw 108MP is a real Samsung problem that I hope they will fix if enough people pressure them.

I am not sure what screen you are watching in but at 1440p in a laptop display the s22 clearly looks better with the details of lady’s hair on the top right, the hair strands on the bottom centre, the skin tones in general and the light not blown out in the background. As for the polka dots it is still visible since it seems like the selfie has a wider FOW.

@@007viviadam I see what you mean. The hair is definitely sharper in the top right. I wouldn’t say it’s clearer in the centre though, just a different colour. But checking previous photos of her, it seems the S22U got the hair colour correct which the other phones did not. I can also see how the eider FOV made it hard to see some of the finer details on S22U, but they are there. Although the texture on the bricks in the background and skin detail looks a lot better on iPhone.

Even though the iPhone won, some parts were biased. As on iPhone 14 Pro you have photographic styles, which can change the tone and the look. “I don’t like it because it’s dark.” Just switch to vibrant or warm and BANG! You got yourself brighter pictures. Want it darker and dramatic? Boom! Rich contrast at your service. Cooler? Sure!

I notice how people forget You can use the rare camera as a selfie camera using the front screen as a preview screen. SO YOU GET TO USE THE MAIN CAMERA 50 MEGAPIXELS AS YOUR SELFIE CAMERA!! Can't do that with an iPhone or any other camera. They seem to leave that test out out of all of the selfie comparisons.. if you can make a selfie with the back camera you need to count that as a selfie camera.

The more megapixels in a camera especially a mirrorless will produce more noise even if slightly than a smaller MP camera. The pixels are smaller on the larger MP cameras so noise will always creep in more. That is why the A7s3 is such a beast at lowlight and only shoots at 12mp where I had the a7R4 and that always had more noise. That also changes when changing from say full frame to M43.

I treat my 14 Pro Max as a Sony mirrorless, shooting in ProRAW when possible, and post-process properly. You never have to worry about contrast or color cast anymore. It's better to vote what you cannot live with. Remember, you can always use Topaz to recreate sharper eyes, and AI will only get better over time. I don't care if full auto does better in some cases on Samsung. You can always see it on the display and if it turns out bad, reshoot it, change the exposure. In other words, I treat my phone as a full-frame mirrorless, not as a cheap point and shoot. If you need to post the photo right away, you can still use Lightroom on the phone, or even the built-in editor.

Not sure if it's been said... with the 108mp sensor on the S22 Ultra, the limiting factor in terms of resolvable detail is probably the lens, not the sensor itself. I'm also not really surprised at the low-light zoom performance on the S22 Ultra. It may have an actual 10x lens, but with an f/4.9 aperture... yeah that's gonna be useless in even mildly low light. So, given that limitation (not a dis at all - look up how bonkers expensive and enormous a fast zoom lens is for a DSLR), I think they've made the right call.

Great video! Appreciate you guys taking the time to do this. Will hopefully shut up a lot of naysayers and fanboys. One note, the Fold's inside camera should never be used in the competition. No one is going to take selfies with it. Its purpose is for video conferencing and calls. Same way that the back cameras for selfies shouldn't be used in the competition either. That gives Fold an unfair advantage. Use the outside front camera if you want a selfie. That way it's fair across the board. That said, the consumer wins the most. The fact that all 3 of the cameras are so close means that any of them is going to take great pictures, and people can look at other aspects to find the right phone for them.

I love the format but it would be nice to see more variety of shots. Right now the focus are so heavily on portrait, night, and zoom shot. The iPhone has long established to perform really well in low light shots and video, I don't think it's fair to have 1/2 the photos shot in low light and night, another 25% in video, and the rest are whatever. As someone who take a lot of photos, I would love to see more of action shot (for sport events), long exposure and astrology (for city light and night sky), Panorama (for a view so grand it simply do not fit in a wide angle), underwater to test waterproofing, etc.
